If you want a full and active life, then you should not stop performing physical activities even when you are already in your 80's. The more you let the thought of aging sink in, the more will age prevent you from enjoying and playing sports, traveling with your loved ones, or simply walking your dog. Moreover, several studies have confirmed that being active is one of the best ways to avert aging. If you want to stay young and healthy, read on and follow the tips below:

Do Weight Training

One of the reasons why top celebrities still maintain their weight and slim figures even if they are way above 50 years old is due to their never-ending efforts to build muscle mass. As you age, your metabolism will start to slowdown and you will end up adding several pounds a year. To speed up your sluggish metabolism, you need to build your muscle mass. The sure way to achieve muscle mass is by lifting weights. Moreover, strong muscles also contribute to strong bones.

Don't Be Afraid To Sweat A Little

A couple of minutes inside the sauna are also helpful for people who are already over the hill. Another effect of aging is that the waste disposal system of the body may not be functioning at its peak anymore. Thus, you need to help your body get rid of the toxins inside with the help of steam.

Drink Up

Consuming the right amounts of water is important to help your body perform certain functions, including digestion and waste elimination. Moreover, water is responsible for maintaining the softness of your skin from within. Even if you have a buff body, you will still look old if you do not take care of your skin.

However, too much intake of water while you are exercising may not be a good idea. Do not flood your body with fluids while you are performing strenuous activities. A woman collapsed and died during a marathon in Boston as a result of too much water consumption.

Do Some Chores

An effective way to workout is doing chores around the house. Gardening, cleaning, and doing home improvements can help calm and relax your nerves, as well as provide you ways of burning fat. If you are one of those people who are not really fond about the gym, you can probably do some workout around the house.

Workout While Working

Do not let your office work become an excuse for not exercising. You can actually do some bit of stretching even when you are sitting down in front of your computer. Stretching and little bit of exercise for the neck, shoulders, feet, ankles, arms and wrists will help rev up your metabolism and keep your heart pumping.

Flex your arms, roll your ankles, wrists and neck, stretch your shoulders and stomp your feet every 10 minutes to keep your mind working and your body active. Furthermore, these activities are important in boosting blood circulation and preventing the stiffening of your joints and bones. Have you noticed that if you sit for extended hours without a break, your legs will feel numb and stiff? If you are feeling this, then you might already have circulation problems.

Small Amounts Of Caffeine Can Be Good

A small amount of caffeine taken before exercises can help extend the activity for about thirty minutes longer, according to a study conducted by the Australian Institute of Sport. Caffeine is also responsible for burning more fat.

Don't Let Pain Stop You

Don't make pain an excuse for not moving around. People with arthritis and rheumatism usually skip physical activities because they think that this would make their situation worse. Actually, if you just sit around, your joints may probably become stiffer. Ask your doctor what activities you can do to help prevent the worsening of your condition.
