Any industry requires specialists in their department of research and development to carry out the work. A chemical industry needs its chemists to study about paints, dyes, and textiles. A computer industry needs its engineers to study constantly and make new changes in computer technology. A pharmaceutical industry requires its research department to find out new drugs and cures for many diseases. All major industries have been successful in their field with years of planning, research, and development. The researchers working in this field require a special type of microscope for their use. They need specific tools to carry out their conceptualization, building, development and testing. One such type is the industrial microscope.

An industrial microscope is a stereoscopic microscope, which is fitted with proper accessories to serve researchers in many fields. It is a device with low power magnifying lenses and an external light source and can view specimens without sectioning them. Engineers use this device to view finer details in objects like computer chips, industrial materials, textiles, circuits and other important objects in the industry.

These microscopes are used to study the material and their effect of stress on them. It helps researchers and engineers to study the nature of the material, its characteristic features and to study the effect of weather conditions, stress, and other environmental factors on the material.

Its Accessories:

The microscope requires an external light source to illuminate the specimen under viewing. The light can be used at different angles to highlight certain details of the specimen, like bumps or ridges, which are features of rocks or metals. It can also highlight certain angles or corners of the specimen, which pertain to the textile or computer chips and accentuate traits, which can be essential finds in the field of research and development.

The microscope might also require other accessories like new lenses that can fit into the objective lens. The lenses can get damaged very easily because of its periodic usage and will require regular replacements. Another very common accessory can be a new prism for the microscope. This is because this device may be shifted from one place to another during research. This shifting could cause dislodgment of prism from its place and would thus require replacement.

Slits, filters and gratings can be the other important accessories for the light source. Slits and gratings can dim the light and can also diffuse the light to let it fall at a certain angle or with a certain pattern on the specimen. The engineers will thus make better use of the light and use it in places they require the most. Filters are also used to dim the light, but this is done with different shades and colors. When the microscope is used to study the nature of certain rocks and minerals, filters will find a great use, as the specimens appear different under different shades of light. Thus, filters find a great use as accessory in stereoscopic microscopes.

A digital camera is another very commonly used accessory found in industrial microscope. This camera gives you visual documentation of your study and is a good back up for your research. Many industries use different types of microscope like electron microscope, dark field, and phase contrast microscope for their research. With the digital camera in place, you will be able to report your findings better and have documentation of the same.
