Jackson Hole has a well-earned reputation for being one of the most challenging mountains in North America. This is the resort for serious skiers. The Jackson Hole Airport is situated at the base of the Teton Mountains. United Airlines, through their Star Alliance connection with Lufthansa, has daily flights to Jackson Hole, which usually connect through Salt Lake City, Denver or Dallas. Alltrans provides shuttle service from the airport.

Jackson Hole is made up of two mountains: Rendezvous and Après Vous. According to their website, Jackson Hole has 10% beginner terrain, 40% intermediate % terrain and 50% expert terrain. According to personal reviews, the "beginner" designation should be taken with a grain of salt, but the "expert" designation should be taken very seriously. There are 111 official trails at Jackson Hole. If you want to take advantage of Jackson's open backcountry policy you can ride to the top of the Rendezvous Bowl and ski off the backside of Rendezvous into Grand Teton National Park. If you are not quite ready for backcountry skiing, you can stay inbounds and challenge yourself on the famous, or infamous Corbet's Couloir, which is a double black diamond run. Non-skiers can enjoy tours of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park, dog sledding and snowmobiling. There are also a number of museums, such as the national Museum of Wildlife Art and the Jackson Hole Historical Society, as well as a variety of art galleries.

Lodging

Since you will be "roughing it" on the slopes, you might want to splurge on some lodging luxury. Treat yourself to a stay at the Four Seasons Resort at Teton Village. The high-end amenities include lighted make-up mirrors, high-speed Internet access, fireplaces, terrycloth robes and more. At the Four Seasons Spa, you can enjoy signature treatments such as the alpine berry body ritual and the hawthorn and mallow body glow. The Four Seasons Ski and Spa package is based on double occupancy. It includes three-day lift tickets, three-day ski and boot rental and two spa treatments for two people.

In contrast to the Four Seasons, the Ranch Inn offers affordable accommodations in downtown Jackson. Rates range from $65 to $120 nightly. The Ranch Inn is in close proximity to art galleries, shopping and museums. Amenities include a complimentary continental breakfast, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, cable television and movie channels. Some rooms have kitchenettes and wireless Internet access. Call (800) 348-5599.

Dining and Nightlife

In contrast to the adrenaline filled days at the slopes, in the evening, Jackson Hole shows a kinder, gentler side. This is evident in the popularity of the dinner sleigh rides. The Mill Iron Ranch sleigh ride travels through Wyoming's must rustic areas. Along the way, you will be able to see elk as well as other animals indigenous to the Wyoming. After the ride, you will enjoy a T-bone steak dinner at the Mill Iron Ranch Lodge. 888-808-6390

If you are not a fan of T-bone steak, the Solitude Cabin Dinner Sleigh Ride offers a fish and a vegetarian option. Call 307) 739-2603 for details.

The Mangy Moose Restaurant and Saloon has something for everyone. The restaurant serves fish, pasta, steaks, seafood and vegetarian entrees. The café at Mangy Moose serves breakfast, and offers free coffee. The gift shop features home furnishings, glassware, stuffed animals, jewelry and other unique items. The mangy Moose market and Cellar has a wide selection of wines. They also have an active concert and entertainment schedule. Visit http://MangyMoose.Net for schedule and details.

Jackson Hole Summers

Summer activities include hiking, climbing, horseback riding, and camping in Grand Teton National Park. Kayakers and whitewater rafters enjoy the challenge of the Snake and Hoback Rivers. Anglers visit Jackson Hole to fish in the famous Flat Creek. Some even participate in the annual One Fly competition. On Wednesday and Saturday nights, be sure to visit the rodeo nights at the fair grounds.
