Ever felt like your environment needs a little change? When you’re always looking at the same old scene day in and day out, after a while it can be a bit. A room, for example, where you live can get too old after some time. That is why there is a need to redecorate and try something new. Give a new life to dying space and see it in a brand new light. And when it comes to redecorating, one of the basic has to be painting. And unless your not one of painter California residents would pay an arm and a leg for, its important to know even just the basics. A simple color can make or break a room. So here are some tips on repainting your old space.

Colors are not just about a change of ambiance. It would be a good idea to modify your room colors according to a type of mood you’d like to encourage. Shades of red and oranges prop up excitement and energize, you’d want to use these colors for your social and activity rooms. Yellow is also an active color that stirs up thoughts and creativity. If you’re going for a calmer quiet environment, passive colors are the way to go. Shades of blue, purple and green would be great for bedrooms and bathrooms.

Its important to go with colors you like. Getting people’s advice about what suits your home is important but if its you that would ultimately be living in your home, not them. So make your opinion the number one priority.

Keep it as simple as much as possible. Too many colors can be overpowering, especially when we’re talking small places. Sometimes its okay to stick with one color and go with different shades for assortment. Also, when painting your wall, its great to pick a color or shade that can blend in with almost anything. Think of it as a canvass you can splash with accents such as furniture, portraits and lighting to create a grand image. When you are repainting an old home, go for a flat sheen. This type or paint hides the imperfections of aged spaces.

Faux methods can be helpful when you want to add a bit of depth. Sponging, colorwashing, dragging and other techniques can be quite handy. If you’re not a painting contractor and you’re not familiar with them, practice on a separate surface and test different colors before applying it on to your wall.

Remember to not just consider the color of the paint, the shade or the style. Don’t forget that you would still need to add your other furniture and fixtures to the project. Keep in mind: balance is everything. Create an environment where everything can go together without resulting into a chaotic room filled with conflicting styles.

Now when it comes down to it, repainting a home can be quite an unpleasant task. But don’t forget while you are doing it in the first place. Take time to enjoy every moment of this makeover. Include your kids in the venture and make it a chance to teach and spend some quality time with them. When all is said and done, you would’ve made a fun and inspiring journey into a whole new beginning.
