When planning any kind of Whitby vacations it is a good idea to carry out as much research as you can. There are plenty of websites online where you can find reviews along with some helpful advice, which will make your stay in this English coastal town more enjoyable.

The town of Whitby has a very illustrious nautical heritage and everywhere you go in the town, you will see reminders of this. There are the dark passageways that would have helped the smugglers to escape detection along with reminders that can be found in the harbour as well.

However, even today the town of Whitby is strongly associated with the industry of fishing. Not only has it been a way of supplying the town with sustenance throughout the many centuries it has been established, but is a great source of income for it as well. Also for many years the town was renowned for it shipbuilding facilities.

A great many of the visitors to this coastal town are more than content to spend time looking at the sea rather than spending time on it. Yet for those who would like to try something a little more adventurous during their time here, there are plenty of activities that take place on the sea that they can try.

For example if you would like to have a go at deep sea fishing there are plenty of charter services that will off you excursions to give this a go. In many cases, they will even supply you with the equipment that you require or you could always bring your own.

As well as the chance to have a go at deep sea fishing there are plenty of boat trips available during the height of the summer season that the whole family can enjoy. If you want, why not take a trip on Whitby's old lifeboat, which throughout the summer months will take you around the bay and back again.

However, if you are someone who during your visit to Whitby is not really suited to time at sea then why not spend sometime strolling around the ruins of Whitby Abbey. This is situated high on a cliff top and allows you to view the town from above. Of all the various attractions, that this coastal town has to offer the Abbey is the most popular one of all.

Finally if you really want to get away from the sea a short drive away is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at Grosmont. From here, you can take a ride on one of its well-preserved steam engines through the Yorkshire Moors national park to Pickering. Plus during your Whitby vacations, you can also view the 20 plus other steam locomotives that they have housed in the locomotive sheds at this site.

There are many places in and around Whitby where you can stay. Whether you want to use a small bed and breakfast, a comfortable guest house or a larger hotel, you are sure to find the perfect accommodation for you in Whitby.
