Young Americans, before you join the military please get a second opinion. You might consider Vice-President Cheney's reason for not joining the armed forces. When asked why he had applied for so many Vietnam War draft deferments he said, "I had better things to do."

The truth is students, not many people like anti-war movements and that's understandable, especially when you consider that there are more hypocrites in the US today than there are fleas. A country built upon individual rights is not offering freedom when our youth is urged to give up their personal liberties, rights, and possibly their lives in favor of Halliburton's agenda. Today’s military recruiters would have you think otherwise – promises of funding for college, work experience, and a good life after the term is over are just a few lures for today’s youth to give up their lives as they believe they are working towards their future. Kids, don't break your mother's heart. Don't die for a lie. We're asking you to study war no more.

Unfortunately, America’s youth is falling for the lies and deception of an organization that only has its best interests in mind. Veterans who once gave up their freedom in favor of war will be the first to recommend buyer beware. That's a recommendation worth considering. Learn why investing in your own education and future through other resources is the best decision you can ever make about your future.

The Dangers of Joining the Military – What the Anti-War Movement Knows

Since recruiters are trained to ‘sell’ their organization to round up hopeful recruits, they fail to show you the real damage that enlisting can cause. The attractive advertisements and fancy brochures only tell you what they want you to hear – that you’ll receive thousands of dollars for your education and will be set up with a secure life in the future. A few dangers of joining the armed forces include:

• Recruiters will tout the benefits of work during the military, but very few of the skills you learn will be transferable to a job. Since you may be trained in only a limited specialty, you give up the opportunity to branch out in a career and take on different types of responsibility.

• Enlisting in the military means you become the property of the institution; they ‘own’ you 24/7. You don’t even have the freedom of speech, and you can be punished severely for breaking ‘rules’ most people never have to follow. Veterans often say that war changed them psychologically, making it difficult to resume a ‘normal’ life when they returned to a civilian lifestyle.

Politics and joining the military are at opposite ends of the spectrum, and the anti-war movement is just one way to show your support for our country. Don’t fall for the lies and deception of an organization that wants you to give up your real rights – your future, and ultimately your life, are at stake.
