When you plan a trip to Italy, do not forget Siena, a city of the middle ages. It has a magnificent cathedral built in the 13th century.

But how do you get there? When you head for Siena you are likely to land at Pisa airport where you can pick your pre-booked car from car Hire Italy or its Car Hire Pisa Airport. Once you have a car of your choice and comfort, you can move around in Italy by deciding your own itinerary.

The Siena’s magnificent cathedral is called a marvelous piece of craftsmen who not only used marble in floors but also added to the elegance of the cathedral with their art works. Visitors prefer to spend a day in admiring and looking at Siena’s sloping red brick Piazza del Campo, a heritage site, which has recognition from the UNESCO since 1995. It is this historic monument that also has a dramatic Gothic city hall, the Gaia fountain and the chapel of the virgin. All in one. A marvelous monument and place worth spending a day there.

Siena, a Tuscan hill town, is also well connected to Florence by both road and rail. So when you have your own car, you can visit Florence by making Siena your base or vice versa.

If you have interest in history and background of places of interest or tourist attractions in Siena, then you must be knowing that Siena and Florence have all through remained locked in a titanic battle over artistic movement. And talk to any Sienese. He or she would be proud of this tradition.

Glory the city once enjoyed is still reflected through the Academia Musicale Chigiana and the Siena Jazz School that offers music courses and concerts around the year. It organizes a grand festival in the summer by holding more than thirty concerts at different venues in the city. Siena’s conservatory has Sessione Senese par la Musica e l’arte, a summer course for those musicians keen to sharpen or perfect their craft.

One of richest tradition of Siena is the Palio, which in reality is the contest or competition for political power. All seventeen contrade – neighborhoods – still participate.

Horse race continues to be the most important event of the Palio that is conducted on July 2 and again on August 16. Preparations for the two races start on June 29 and August 12. It starts with the selection and pairing of the horses with their contradas. Rules and ceremonies dating back to the Middle Ages are still religiously followed as the jockeys run on a decided though dangerous course, bareback, in Piazza del Campo, city's renowned shell shaped piazza. The races are fought fiercely and can lead to injuries or even fatalities.

Siena also has a rich and long history in basketball, soccer, and rugby also. So take out your car you have from Car Hire Siena or Car Hire Pisa and be there to watch the Palio or games of soccer, basketball or rugby being fought fiercely.
