A way that is proven to work is a simple approach. It’s called a gasoline rebate credit card. A gas credit card works just like any other credit card but focuses more on the gasoline sector giving you more rebates on gas.

When it comes down to applying for a gas card, you’re going to be approached with two different kinds. There’s going to be your gas card that focuses on saving at all gas stations and then you’ll have your card that focuses on saving at only a particular gas station. Now, the question is, “What kind of credit card should I apply for?”

While both types of cards have their upside and downside, I truly believe that you can get more out of a card that focuses on a gas station instead of all of them in general.

Get more rebates on your fill ups

With a gas station card that focuses on a gas station, say like BP, you’ll find that these types of cards are generally going to give you more off per gallon than compared to a traditional card. In 2008, the BP Visa® card gave ten percent off per gallon for the first ninety days and five percent per gallon after. When we compare this to another card such as the Discover® open road card, we find that the difference is about one to two percent. This may not sound like a lot now but it does add up.

Gifts tend to be better

When you’re loyal to a gas station and you fill up with their gas card, you’re going to find that they are more likely to send you gifts throughout the year. The trouble with your traditional card is that you’re going to be filling up at more than one gas station, so you’re technically not going to be loyal to a company. Most consumers love getting free gifts such as t-shirts, gas gift cards, and more just for filling up with gas. So not only will you save on your fill ups, you’ll probably get gifts as well.

While both sides have their ups and downs, if you’re looking for a certain type of card, I’m hoping that these two points will be enough for you to sign up for a particular gas station card. Make sure that when you do sign up that the gas station you’re going to be loyal to is around your area. Also, make sure that if you travel a lot, the gas station is located nationwide. You won’t want to sign up for a card that only caters to a few locations; this won’t even be worth signing up.
