If you are looking to market a new product, It is imperative that you perform a keywords research before taking the plunge into your new online business venture. A keywords research tool is where you can look at what internet users are searching on the web, and see what are the most searched keywords in the major search engines. If you can find your product among the most searched keywords then you know that your product is in high demand.

However, just knowing if your product is in high demand does not mean that there is a market for it. You next need to look and see what sites come up when you type in that keyword. Sometimes there are people that will have a lock on a keyword, and that means that everyone will buy from them, thus, there would not be much of a market would there? Also may be your niche is over-saturated. It would be like trying to open a bagel shop among twenty others on the same boulevard. Sure you will make some money but not enough to survive your next month!

One thing that you have to remember about keyword research is that it's very important, but it is not always going to tell the truth. The truth is that a lot of sites will pay for their ranking on a bunch of these search sites. So just because a web site comes up first does not mean that it's the one that everyone buys from. Also, you have to keep time frame in mind.

If you are looking to start up your own business then you have to know that it can take time for you to get ranked on the major search engines. However, that does no not mean that over time you will not get ranked. It's very important to not give up right away if your web site is not ranked in the first few weeks. It can take time, but in the end it is worth it.

Another misconception about keywords research is that the "most popular" terms are the most important for rankings. Getting your website ranked number one for a keyword who is unrelated to your site is a complete waste of time and money. Your will see a lot of clicks but your visitors won't stick around. Also you won't get any sales in the process and your ROI (return on investment) will be close to zero (if not worse).

This is why I like to search for long tail keywords when I perform a keywords research. Focusing on keywords which receive lower volumes of search engine traffic will lead to an increase in overall targeted traffic to your website. Long tail keywords will also give you a better conversions ratio because you are generating better qualified prospects.

Search engines users using long tail keywords are more likely to make a purchase from you. By using these long tail phrases, you are effectively targeting the right market of potential buyers.
