If you want search engines to love your web site and rank you high then you have to have a solid link network. Link Building is time consuming, frustrating and most of the time confusing, yet unavoidable. Because ultimately, it's still the trump card for higher rankings. So let's say you have a web site about video games, and you link up with someone that is talking about cars. You are not going to get any link relevancy that way. Actually in the end, if you place your link in a whole bunch of spots that the search engines do not like then it could hurt your ranking. Avoid garbage links that have nothing to do with your site.

You need to make sure that the site you link up to is also a high quality site. If you have a nice site and you link up with someone that does not then that could hurt your ranking. When we are talking about high quality we are not talking about pretty pictures. We are talking about quality and unique related content, and if they just randomly added keywords all over the place, not only is that not going to help them, it's not going to help anyone that is linked to them.
