In a forum I read, one member asked a question. Why do so many network marketer jump ship? No one replied to his posting, but almost 500 members read it. As I pondered the question, I came to the following conclusion. They leave either network marketing or they join company after company looking for the one that will propel them into fortune or network marketing fame. Although they will say, with great conviction that they are not interested in a get rich quick scheme, I suspect they are. They want network marketing to be easy.

Network Marketing is simple, but it is not easy. That is why so many people leave network marketing. Although the Internet and the skills associated with the Internet have made it even simpler, it is still hard work. It is not a get rich quick endeavor. Network marketing organizations are different from traditional organizations.

In traditional organizations, the goal is to employ as few people as possible to do a large amount of work, which produces large profits that are distributed to those who own the organization. In Network Marketing to goal is to recruit a large amount people who each generate a small amount of sales which results in a large amount of profit that is then distributed a throughout the organization.

In traditional business organizations, you give your manager your creative ideas and he or she uses them, takes the credit, and gets the promotion. In a Network Marketing organization, you give the person under you your creative ideas and hope he or she beats you to the top position in the company, because you get a percentage on her or her volume. It takes a special mindset to be successful in Network Marketing.

What does it take to be a success in Network marketing? In his book Successful Network Marketing for the 21st Century, Rod Nichols (1995) listed the characteristics of Network marketing’s Top Achievers.

Be Courageous
Be Receptive
Be Honest
Be a Leader
Love to Help People
Be Passionate
Be Persistent
Have Unwavering Faith
Be Self-Disciplined

From this list, you can see that the people who are successful in Network marketing must possess or develop qualities that help them withstand the rejection, and criticism. Network marketers are in the people business. They spend their time encouraging people; coaching people and most of all they find out what people want and help them get it. As long as you are working, they will support you while you develop the characteristics of a top achiever. Personal development is a large part of the network marketing lifestyle. I have heard many speeches by top network marketers, and every one of them talks about their personal grow. They all say, “I not the person I was.” The personal growth is just as important as the money. It almost like, if you do not grow as a person you cannot grow your business.

What would I suggest to anyone in the network marketing business find the company or companies that work for you, develop the characteristics of a top achiever and, remember the network marketing mantra, “Help others get what they want and you will get what you want”.
