You may not realize it but there is a silent killer lurking in the underground portion of your house: basement mold mildew. It is a cruel fact that mold and mildew can without a doubt endanger you and your family’s health. Once you are exposed to mold and mildew, your skin is damaged and mold even invades your lungs and other vital organs of your body. Even if you are a healthy person, you can still become allergic to mold and mildew and this could prove to be lethal. Mold and mildew thrive on damp environments where there are leaks and have high levels of humidity such as your basement.

Mold and mildew can survive tremendously in places where conditions are cool and humid such as a basement. All houses and buildings usually have underground rooms called basements or cellars and not truly suitable as living spaces and may be dark, cool and fairly dry. These conditions make your basement a fine place for storage such as a wine cellar or a place for your washer or dryer. It could also be a place of refuge for the owner against very strong winds like hurricanes and tornadoes. This part of the underground structure of your house is also a place where you feel protected and safe.

No matter what type of mold it is, you must definitely remove it and so you must choose the right mold and mildew cleaner. You must take charge and prevent mold and mildew from ever entering your house if you want your basement to be free from these disease-causing fungi. You can control mold and mildew simply by making sure that your house has sufficient ventilation and introducing a dehumidifier or air conditioner in your basements or cellars. You can also prevent mold by fixing any leaks in your roof, walls and especially indoor plumbing. Carefully clean up and dry always those areas that have dampness like your bathrooms and showers.

As soon as you know that mold and mildew is present in your basement then you must look for cleaning products that are not only effective in getting rid of these organisms but also safe for you to use. The right mold and mildew remover contain organic and all natural formulation that chiefly removes all mold and mildew including their spores. There have been many products in the market today that claim they can do the job but these ordinary cleaners may momentarily wash away the mold but does not get rid of the spores and eventually mold and mildew will come back again in your basement. They also give off harsh and toxic chemicals that are hazardous to your health.

Mold and mildew are tricky things to spot but once they are discovered then eliminating them is simple as long as you have the right cleaning products. Your family’s health is your topmost concern and even if mold and mildew can be terrifying, as long as you have the right tools and information, your fears are unnecessary. Protect your basement from mold and mildew by making these basic precautions. Have sufficient ventilation, exhaust fans and dehumidifiers in your house mostly during the humid season. Cleanliness and awareness is the key to mold and mildew prevention.
