Strengths / Features:

*The PC2004 includes a unique coil inserting system that is designed to help make inserting coils of all lengths easier. It is compatible with spirals that are as short as six inches and as long as thirty six inches. The inserter on this machine uses a small chute to help guide the coil onto the documents and to prevent it from falling to the side during the inserting process. This combined with the lexan coil inserting guide can help you to position your documents correctly for faster inserting.

*The coil inserter on this machine is rated for use with a wide variety of coil sizes. It can be used to bind documents with spines as small as 6mm and as large as 30mm in diameter. Most inserters can handle the smaller coils. However, it is nice to see that the PC-2000 series of machines can handle coils larger than one inch (25mm). Many other machines cannot.

*Like the entire line of Rhin-O-Tuff equipment the PC2004 is a heavy duty machine that is made out of metal. Although this machine is designed for moderate volume users, its construction is excellent and it should hold up well in environments where it is used every day. Just keep in mind that you may need to replace the rubber on the wheel over time.

Weaknesses / Limitations:

*Although the unique design of the coil inserter on this machine makes it better suited for handling longer coils, it is also more difficult to use than a traditional roller style inserter. This machine is excellent for users who will use it often and can figure out how it works. However, the learning curve on getting the inserter to work properly is fairly steep. Organizations that have multiple users or who don't do a lot of binding may find that the inserter is more problems than it is worth.

*The punch on the PC-2004 is only rated to handle up to 12 sheets at a time. For light volume users this should be adequate. However, users who are looking to bind a number of documents per day may end up spending a lot of time binding their documents with this system.

*It is somewhat odd that the PC-2004 is designed to help with inserting longer coils and yet the punch isn't ideal for punching long documents. The punch on this machine does have an open throat. However, it does not have disengageable dies. This means that it will be difficult to punch documents without ending up with a half-hole on the edge of the page. In fact, the punch on this machine does not have any disengageable dies which makes it incredibly difficult to use it with anything but letter sized sheets.

Recommendation:

*The Rhino Tuff PC2004 (sometimes called the PC2000) has an interesting and innovative coil inserting system that can make using longer coil lengths a breeze.

*However, the punch on this system not only has a limited punching capacity but isn't ideal for punching longer sized documents.

*The machine is a little bit expensive to buy just for the inserter. However, for users that are experienced with this style of inserter and like it this may be a good choice for binding letter sized documents. Other users may want to look at another combination punch and bind coil binding system.
