Whether you have taken lessons as a young child, or you have only recently begun taking lessons as a young adult, you already know about how very versatile and beautiful the piano sounds. Music written for piano has withstood the test of time, and even an untrained ear can detect the beautiful strains of structure and resonance in a good piano piece. While you might know a lot about the music theory that goes into what makes good piano music, were you also aware that you could compose it as well? Composing piano music is something that many people never get around to, which is a shame as it is fairly straightforward. If you are looking for a great way to put your music down on a paper and to possibly hear other people play it, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Surely, one has to have music in his soul to create inspirational piano music. But everyone has his own music and stories to tell. An ordinary music from an ordinary person can be made inspirational through the sound of the piano. There are many who think that composing music in a piano is a hard thing to do. This is the normal assumption that is far from the real truth. Composing music with the piano is actually one of the more convenient way of composing a song.

1. Know Your Instrument, the Piano

When composing music, it is vital that you fully understand the instrument that will give life to your musical composition. The piano is one instrument that has been the favorite of almost all the great musical composers. Being pianists themselves, they knew their piano inside out. This is one reason they were able to compose great and timeless musical pieces. If you know your piano fully well, you'll be able to have the right timing and intensity to give life to your own compositions.

2. Ask Your Piano Teacher for Help

If you think you might need professional assistance, you can always seek the help of your piano teacher if you are taking piano lessons. But if you're planning on hiring a piano teacher to give you piano lessons, make sure to let prospective teachers know that you want to be able to alo compose music too, not just learn how to play the piano. This will help you find the right piano teacher. You'll do better to hire a piano teacher who also has experience composing music.

3. Manual Notation Is a Must

There are a number of software available that will help you put your music down on paper. However, manually wriing down your music on paper yourself is a necessary thing you have to learn if you are intent on becoming a piano composer. You stand a better chance of understanding how melodies go together if you put down notes and correct them by hand.

4.Work on your sightreading

Sightreading and composition go hand in hand. One helps the other, and you'll find that you'll improve in both as your study grows more intensive. You'll find that you are in a great position to increase your ability to sightread when you start composing; you'll have a more immediate place to reach for the notes, and you'll find that your work goes a lot fast in both cases.
