The majority of people who use social network sites use them as an avenue to express themselves or to even obtain their 15 minutes of fame. But these days there is an increasing number of homebased business owners who use social network sites as a way of promoting their business. No matter what type of homebased business you operate, these sites can be used as a way of obtaining new customers.

A large number of homebased business owners have very little knowledge of how or why they should use social networking to promote their business website. Out of those people the majority have no real idea of what social networking sites are or how they work. Social networking websites can be likened to online communities. These websites provide a fairly easy way for people from all walks of life to come together. The majority of social networking websites have inbuilt search engines that allow you to locate and make contact with people from all over the world who share similar interests with you.

There are a large number of social networking sites, which includes MySpace, that have over 19 million users and are still growing. Given this, not only is there an excellent opportunity for you to make new friends, there is a vast potential for you to find people who would be interested in visiting your homebased business website.

When you first join an online networking community, you are given your own profile page. This page can be used to describe not only yourself but also your homebased business. By including details about and providing a link to your online website you can target new visitors to your site.

As previously stated, social networking websites are of benefit to all website owners, but especially those who are looking to make a profit with their homebased business websites. Income can be generated in two ways, by either the sale of goods and services or obtaining revenue from advertising.

The correct use of social networking sites can be a great advantage to a homebased business website that sells goods and services.

This is because you can use it to send out a bulletin to all your friends about your goods or services. Daily, weekly, or monthly, you could send out a bulletin that showcases one of the products or services that your website sells. You could also showcase a product on your profile page or on a blog page, which is provided by most social networking websites.

Social networking websites need to be approached in a different manner if you are using your homebased business website to make money with advertising programs, such as affiliate programs or Google Adsense. These websites will need to be approached as if they were your own personal websites because you will not necessarily have a particular product or service to focus on. If your website discusses being a horse owner, it is a good idea to mention your love for horses in your profile.

Once you have done this, adding a link to your online website will be acceptable and not usually considered spam.

Social networking websites, as with all other types of online websites, will help to increase the number of page views your website receives. Generally speaking, the more page views that you receive means more clicks which means increased revenue for you.

No matter what type of website you have or what you use it for, there are many different ways that you can promote your site. When done correctly, social networking websites can be used to promote your homebased business and increase in your page views, in no time at all.
