An online degree in Information Technology provides high caliber educational opportunities for students interested in pursuing vocations in a full range of disciplines that support our computer and information-based society and economy. The degree centers on problem-solving skills and methods needed to provide computer-based and web-based IT solutions in our world ecommerce based economy. The exploding development of the World Wide Web and Information Technology has rendered an important need for Information Technology pros and consequently for teaching in Information Technology.

Information Technology (IT) degree programs will satisfy this market driven educational demand; They focus on the attainment of the theory, rationales, patterns, methodological analysis, competencies, tools, and applied science associated with the Information Technology Marketplace. These online degree programs are planned to bring forth academically sound and functionally qualified IT professionals that have the essential foundation to be successful in the IT industry. This course of study is market driven; it develops the student’s ability to exploit the high demand for IT professionals in diverse sectors in the industry. Students finishing an IT degree can apply for a wide range of IT related jobs, such as: internet developer, web publisher, software engineer, systems analyst, database analyst, database architect, internet developer, project manager, and information technology manager.

In addition to the common instruction level learning objectives, the BS in Information Technology also attempts to obtain the following particular learning results of its grads:

· Examine the data needs and prepare entity relationship models that constitute the relationships and the numerical elements in an information system.

· Assess the rationales for designing relative and object-relational database systems.

· Apply analytical, coherent, and decisive thinking abilities to break down computer user demands and to project, formulate, and deploy operational Information Technology resolutions.

· Assess the execution of OOP technology in Microsoft’s .NET framework, and ascertain the affect of .NET IDE’s on configuration management.

To be counted a genuine online academic degree program, an online course of study must be officially accredited by one of several accreditation boards. These boards consider the course of instruction, and how it has been presented, and decides whether or not it allows for adequate background knowledge in the subject to justify being considered a valid degree program. If it does not conform to these standards, the degree program is not accredited, and thus employers and others can have no assurance in the quality of the degree. Since degree mills, as a whole, provide no actual teaching, they're not accredited, and consequently are merely scams.

Below are several accredited colleges that offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology:
