Wareham, one of many of the many small market towns that dot the Southern parts of England, with its scenic coast one of the most visually pleasing in the whole of the UK. Wareham is also home to Monkey world ape rescue centre, a centre committed to protection of monkeys and primates from across the world, and which intended to stop abuse and poaching of endangered species. In January 2008, the centre gained much media attention and international acknowledgement when it was involved with the dramatic rescue of 88 capuchin monkeys from a Chilean laboratory.

To date, Monkey World has steadily increased both in resources and the number of species of primates that populate the park, there is now 160 different primates from over 13 different species, and the park is home to the largest collection of chimpanzees outwith their native Africa. Monkey World also operates a number of themed events during the year to coincide with major calendar dates, such as Easter, Halloween and Xmas events.

Wareham is also home to Lulworth Castle and Park. The Castle dates as far back as the 17th century when it was created to serve as a hunting lodge, and had an uneventful life until1929 when the interior of the castle was decimated by a devastating fire. Extensive repairs had to be carried out to restore the castle to its former glory.

For the children, there is a variety of activities to choose from, one of the most popular being the Children’s Animal Farm, with a wide and wonderful array of animals, rare Portland sheep, pot bellied pigs, pygmy goats as well as the more exotic such as peacocks, and Indian Runner geese. Not only can the children play and pet the animals, but at designated times, help out with the feeding of the animals. The Animal farm is operative from Easter all the way to September.

A few miles away from Wareham is Corfe Castle a castle even older than Lulworth as Corfe can trace its roots back to the 11th century, and whilst all that is left is ruins, rather than serving as a depressing reminder of its former glory, Corfe castle stands tall and proud. The castle endured its fair share of hardships and sieges, particularly in the 17th century as the ravishes of the English Civil War spread throughout the whole of England.

There is more to Corfe than just a castle though! Down in the village there is also the the smallest Town Hall in England as well as the Swanage - Corfe Castle Steam Railway which operates most of the year.

Another attraction that is great for kids (and kid at heart) are the Arne Toy Museum, which features an extensive collection of antique toys some of which date as far back as the 19th century. Parents, there will defiantly be toys from your childhood so be prepared to take a wander down memory lane!

So, as you can see, there is plenty to do for everyone when you visit this pretty seaside town.
