One of the biggest challenges a Network Marketer faces is being responsible for his or her business activities. Even though working from home and being your own boss sounds like a glamorous and casual alternative to working 9-5 for someone else, many people wind up quitting because they can't grasp the concept of being accountable.

Working for yourself means taking on the responsibility of making the decisions of both an employee and an employer. This means firmly grasping the concept that if you want to make money, you have to do the work. People who let distractions get the best of their work day never follow through with their business goals and they ultimately quit when they realize they are not achieving the level of success they initially went into business for themselves for.

The first thing a home-based business owner needs to do is have a clear understanding of what their goals are. You have to have a definite reason why you get out of bed every morning and spend your day building your own business. Write down every single thing you want to buy, every single task you want to accomplish, and set dates next to each goal so you have a sense of urgency.

This doesn't mean that you have to sprint out of the starting block. It just means that you don't want to take forever to reach your goals. If that is the case then you might as well punch a time clock and get a weekly paycheck from a regular job. Once you have dates, then you can go ahead and figure out what you need to do to reach those goals within that time frame. Your actions must reflect your goals in a timely manner.

The best way to reach goals is to set targets that get you moving in the right direction. It is extremely difficult to begin a task that is unfamiliar. It is uncomfortable and time consuming at first, but once you set your mind to just get started, everything falls into place. Most people fail in network marketing because they don't have the willingness to step outside of their comfort zone, and the patience to keep moving forward.

The trick to following through with your daily work activity is keeping in mind what you will lose if you don't get to work. You must write down everything that will happen if you don't stick with your plan and review it any time a temptation or distraction threatens to pull your focus away from your goals. The fear of loss has to be just as powerful, if not more, than the joy of reaching your goals.

What happens if you stick to your daily plan of action for several months and you just can't seem to move along fast enough to keep up with the time-frame you set for yourself? The answer is not to quit! This is the mistake most people make. They get mad, blame the company and make excuses so they don't have to keep trying. What you want to do instead of quitting is evaluate your actions.

Many times it all comes down to the education and guidance network marketers are told to follow. Most companies don't offer much more than outdated techniques that worked for people twenty five years ago that will not work in today's market. If your company is not teaching you how to find your target audience through pay per click advertising, blogging, writing articles and using search engines, then your problem is education. You don't need to switch companies, but you do need to look elsewhere for proven marketing education.

Another roadblock network marketers face is being told to spend more money than they have on over-priced leads and online website systems. Proven marketing education will tell you how to get quality leads on the internet for a fraction of the price other people will try to sell to you. You do not need drain your savings account to start a home-based business by playing numbers games. That is not what marketing is all about.

When your actions are focused on using the techniques that will get your target audience calling you instead of the other way around, you will have no problem following your plan and reaching your goals. You don't want to talk to every person you see. That's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Your focus should be on only those who have a want, need or desire for what you are offering.

Write down your goals, set a proven plan of action to reach them based on proper marketing education, and discipline yourself to be accountable for your actions. It seems rather simple but it also requires a burning desire to make it all happen. Once you have the burning desire, following through no longer becomes an obstacle to success.
