As a male I have to admit I am slightly embarrassed to say this; but we guys are terrible at looking after our health. Whatever the cause of this may be - being pampered by our mothers - I'm not sure, but generally we do not seem to link the fact that are bodies are a little bit like the cars we love so much. If you look after your body and regularly exercise and care for it, it is probably going to last a lot longer before the problems start.

Now I don't want to preach too much because I'm just as guilty as the next man.

Having said that, how many times have you put off that nagging pain in some embarrassing part of your anatomy and then found yourself with mild reassurance and semi-convincing logic, thinking: don't worry - it's probably nothing, it will be OK tomorrow!

My advice is to stop putting off any health concerns you might have. A quick visit to the doctor for a check up can literally save your life.

At no point should you ignore your health. One particular cause of death in males is testicular cancer - a cancer that if detected early enough can be treatable. This requires that men regular check themselves for any unusual lumps on the testicles, just as women regularly check their breasts. This activity along could save your life.

So what am I trying to say here?

Basically - to look after yourself. Prevention is always better than treatment. So here are just a few tips for you to consider introducing into your lifestyle.

1. Change your Diet

You probably already know this one. You can go a long way to improving your general well-being and also gain long term benefits by eating the right kind of foods. Fruit, vegetables and less fat in your diet is a must. Ensure that you avoid fast food restaurants and processed foods and try to choose organic foods or produce from your local farm.

To supplement your diet, consider taking vitamins. These tablets are a great way to ensure that your body gets all of the ingredients it needs keep you feeling fit and healthy. There are many different brands of vitamins, but a good one should include all of the following:

Vitamin A: This is essential in any supplement. Studies show that it has antioxidant properties that help to prevent cancer and maintain a strong immune system.

Niacin: This helps to combat blood cholesterol and can also be found in Chicken, Beef, Fish, Tomatoes and Carrots.

Zinc: This mineral can help to protect your prostrate. A lack of zinc in your diet can also lead to hair less and diarrhea.

2. Exercise Regularly

Keeping your body fit and trim is essential if you want to stay fit and healthy. Now, I'm not talking about hours and hours of weight lifting in the gym or anything like that just simple regular exercise can help to maintain a healthy heart and mind.

Try this for 5 days a week, exercise for just 30 minutes doing something that you enjoy. Any physical activity such as taking the dog for a walk, swimming, jogging or playing your favorite sport for just 30 a minutes per day can have a massive, positive influence on your long term health.

Even if you just adopt one of the tips above, you will be going some way to helping your body fight off illness and keep you feeling fit and healthy.
