The Abaco Islands is a beautiful holiday destination for you and your family. It is situated in the northern region of Bahamas and consist the big islands of Little Abaco and Great Abaco. Among Abacos' smaller but popular tourist havens include Great Guana Cay, Wood Cay, Sandy Point, Moore's Island, Green Turtle Cay, and Man-o'-War Cay. Sailing in Abacos through these places is done using a yacht and a charter.

Not far from the eastern coast of Florida, these beautiful islands are easy to reach.

The islands are also considered to be one of the best places for inexperienced sailors. They are both close to the U.S. mainland, and full of plenty of ports and easy-to-find sites. And, of course, the ocean in this part of the Caribbean is nearly always sunny and warm.

Most often chartered by the week, yachts can be chartered as "bareboat," "skippered bareboat," or "crewed charter."

Bareboat is the option for the serious - and experienced - sailor. These is yachts some with all of the equipment you'll need, but no crew. Bareboat charter will require travelers to prove their qualifications. Travelers will often be given instructions of the region that include known reefs and safe harbors.

Sometimes charter companies will decide that a prospective sailor isn't ready to take a yacht out on his or her own. They may insist that you go with a skipper for at least the first few days of your trip. When this happens it is as though you had decided to charter a skippered bareboat yourself - the skipper will lend his knowledge to your journey, and you are paying him a daily rate.

Chartering a crewed yacht to sail to the Abacos means you'll have a captain and full crew, including a cook. However, don’t forget that the captain is the one in charge of both your and the yacht's safety during your travel. You will decide on the itinerary, but the captain may need to change the route for safety purposes.

The first known history of Abaco Islands was dated back in the late 17th century when several American Revolution Loyalists settled the place. However, the first people of the Abacos were the Lucayan Indians. They were first-rate ship-makers, farmers, and fishers.

Abacos has two main international airports - one in Marsh Harbour and the other one in Treasure Cay. The Nassau International Airport can also serve as Abacos' transnational entry. These airports are connected to the United States via Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Abacos' tourist peak seasons are from November to May. If you want an inexpensive holiday and unpacked beaches, the best time to visit Abacos would be from June to July. During these months, local and foreign tourists are minimal.

Although, you can't find amusement parks, malls, and gambling casinos in the Abacos, you will never get bored of its nature tripping. Among the many things you can do in Abaco Islands include fishing, diving, snorkeling, and sailing. The type of fishing you can do here is different. Instead of the usual, you can stalk fishes in shallow waters. You can also whack Blue Marlins on the island's coastlines. The other popular fishes you can catch in Abacos include the tuna, wahoo, sailfish, and the kingfish. Because of Abaco Island's trendy fishing style, several international and local fishing competitions are held every year.

If you are not into nature tripping, you can always enjoy the island's unique architectural buildings. Around Abacos' towns, you can catch its colonial, picturesque, and colorful constructions. Most of these old-fashioned buildings were erected by the Loyalists in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. There are several hotels, pension houses, and inns you can stay when you will have your holiday in Abacos.

Sailing in Abacos is a fun-filled experience. If you want to go sailing to the south, your destination charter should start either in Little Harbour, Cherokee Sound, Crossing Rocks, Sandy Point, or in the Hole in the Wall. These places are not only first-rate departure areas for your yacht charter; it could also lead you towards Eleuthera and Nassau.
