It has always been The American Dream to own your own home but the details of that dream have begun to differ over time. It used to be that people were simply interested in home ownership for the sake of owning a home. As additional generations have come to view owning their own home as a reality, they have upped the ante and redefined this American Dream. New homeowners today want to own a home that is designed to meet the specific needs of their lifestyle and aesthetic preferences. This is a main factor underlying the trend to work with custom home builders in Florida and around the nation.

We frequently see custom home builders in Florida and other places where there are large retirement communities for several reasons. The first is that the people who are interested in having a custom home built for them are typically people who have lived for enough years to have developed a strong sense of what they want in a home. The second is that it is only later in life that most people feel ready to settle down into the home that they want to live out the rest of their years in. And finally, it is this group of people that are most ready to move on from the basic American Dream of owning a home to the more advanced dream of living in a home designed uniquely for them.

Custom home builders in Florida are of specific interest to the retirement population for these reasons. However, they may also be of interest to those middle-aged and younger residents with parents who live in Florida. These are people who may be inclined to settle down in Florida in order to stay in the area where their parents are residing. In order to make their homes more personal, these people look into having custom home builders in Florida create a home design that will enhance their quality of life in this area. To these people, the American dream is about “having it all”; they want to live near their parents but also to have a lifestyle all their own.

The American Dream has always been something that was achievable to anyone who was willing to work hard enough to get it. That remains true of the new American Dream. However, there is more flexibility in the modern version of home ownership. In the past, the goal was simply to earn enough money to be able to afford a home mortgage. Today, the goal is more likely to be finding a way to create a holistic lifestyle that allows your home to be an extension of who you are. People who work with custom home builders in Florida may be interested in designing a home office or a studio in the home which will allow them to achieve dreams that are based on more than just earning money.

One of the best things about working with custom home builders in Florida (and in other places for that matter) is that the process allows the homeowner some creative input into the home. This reflects the basic change in the American Dream over time which is that people today want to own a home which they can be thrilled to live in because it completely expresses who they are. Additionally, working with a custom home builder allows the home owner to leave room for change in the future. This creates the potential for the individual’s own dreams to change over time. That openness to change is precisely what today’s American Dream is all about.
