On the small volcanic island of Lanzarote it’s still a common sight to see camels transporting goods (and tourists) across the desert. Car hire is a far more comfortable option though. Renting a car in Lanzarote allows you to explore all of the delights of the island at a pace that is entirely up to you. From the historic streets of the island capital to the wonderful sandy beaches of the coastline, Lanzarote Airport car hire offers you the chance to see a whole new side of the island. The best thing about hiring a car in Lanzarote is the freedom it affords you. With all this choice on offer, the only question you’ll be asking is where to first?

Lanzarote Mini Guide:

Lanzarote Airport is situated 5km from Arrecife, the island capital. The airport offers a range of services and facilities including: cafés, bars, restaurants, a duty free and a bureau de change for those last minute euros. If driving from the airport follow the Autovia Arrecife-Yaiza, you’ll find that it is clearly signposted.

Things To See/Do in Lanzarote:

Lanzarote may be the most northeasterly of the Canary Islands, but the island offers sunshine holidaymakers dramatic scenery and a sub-tropical climate in summer and winter.

Lanzarote’s year-round sunny climate attracts sports enthusiasts from a number of backgrounds including: golf, sailing, swimming, hang-gliding and paragliding.

Of course, Lanzarote has a range of fabulous beaches including: Playa Blanca Beach, Puerto del Carmen’s highly accessible man-made beaches and Playa de las Cucharas

on the Costa Teguise.

Lanzarote offers excellent touring potential for those exploring the island by hire car. Villa de Teguise, known as the historical capital of the island is well worth a visit. Cobbled streets, churches, convents and mansions-reminders of the island’s colonial heritage are everywhere to be seen here. It’s also a great place to invest in some local handicrafts. One of the best days to visit is Sunday, when the local traders lay out their market stalls.

Eating Out/Nightlife/Accommodation in Lanzarote:

In terms of eating out, Lanzarote offers something to suit all tastes and budgets. Generally, eating out is cheap, with many restaurants catering to families and holidaymakers on a tight budget. Low cost fare international and continental fare is to be found at every resort in the island. Those with adventurous palates however may like to try the local seafood based cuisine.

Lanzarote’s south coast attracts a lively crowd after darkness falls. The resort of Puerto del Carmen offers a number of lively bars at Avenida de las Playas and Centro Atlantico. The island capital Arrecife is another lively hub of nighttime activity. Trendy clubs and bars are to be found at Avenida de Naos and Calle José Antonio.

Accommodation in Lanzarote is well developed due to the island’s popularity with European package holidaymakers. Those looking for luxury hotels are well catered for, as well as those on budget who’d prefer the cheap and simple self-catering option.

Hotels convenient to the airport include The Hotel Beatriz, The Gran Meliá Salinas on the Costa Teguise and Hotel Fariones in Puerto del Carmen.
