With the popularity of shows on television featuring the fashionable world of modeling, a lot of teenage girls (and even boys) are probably dreaming of becoming the next face of Vogue or Elle magazine. Since a lot of people crave to be in front of the camera, competition for becoming a well-known model can be very tough. However, there are a lot of things you can do to get ahead of other aspirants. Two of the things you have to start improving on are your looks and personality.

Below are some things you need to know if you want to become a model:

Be Confident

If you want to become a model, you have to be confident about yourself. It would be difficult to protect your personality or perform whatever is needed of you if you are unsure of yourself or if you do not believe in yourself. However, do not go over the top. You are just starting out and no matter how gorgeous you are, photographers, stylists and clients will not think twice about cutting you off if you have a nasty and obnoxious personality. Be confident without being arrogant.

Stay Fit

The workload of any model can not be easy. Sometimes you need to be photographed in a beach with skimpy clothing during winter, you have to carry something while standing on one foot, or do other outrageous demands that can put a toll on your health. Thus, if you want to be able to do whatever is asked of you, you have to be strong and fit. The skinny type models are no longer in vogue so do not attempt to abstain from food for months just to be able to show your ribs and pelvis in front of the camera.

Be In The Know

Although many movies have portrayed models as dumb and shallow minded, this is not necessarily true. In order to become a supermodel, you have to be smart and you need to be in the know. Just as doctors have to consistently study about medical breakthroughs and new diseases, you also need to be aware of what is happening around you. Study your clients, know what the latest trends are and learn from the experiences of other great models. You do not have to be a genius; just make sure that you have something to say during interviews and parties.

Be Professional

As mentioned earlier, you are just starting out so you want to show others that you are professional and can be counted upon. Make sure that you arrive at shoots early and prepared. Never let clients wait for you even for just a second. Unprofessional attitude will really put off possible clients and even casting agencies. Thus, the night before your shoot or meeting, you have to prepare all the things you need, sleep early and be at the meeting place on time, if not earlier. If you are not sure about the address of the place where you are going to meet, do not be afraid to ask for it.

Take Care Of Your Skin

The lights, tons of makeup, stress and sleepless nights can really put a toll on a model's face. Although make up nowadays can cover skin problems, you still do not want to have acne, wrinkles and other skin woes because you don't want to miss out on close up shots and magazine covers.

Remember to clean your face before you go to sleep, making sure that no trace of makeup is left on your skin before you go to sleep. You also need to moisturize and drink plenty of water. As soon as you reach mid twenties or early thirties, you should start using anti-aging creams to prevent development of wrinkles, brown spots, large pores and skin discoloration.
