History of Golf:

Modern day golf is generally accepted as having originated in Scotland. An urban legend about the meaning of golf is that it stands for Gentleman Only, Ladies Forbidden. But golf is first mentioned in a 1457 Scots statute on games that are forbidden, the word goulf meaning to strike or cuff. One of the earliest golf courses in the world might have been Bruntsfield Links, in the city of Edinburgh, the city now has more than twenty-one courses. It is unclear when golf was first played in Edinburgh. The Golf Tavern at the Links course claims to have been founded in 1456, but there is no outside evidence to support the claim made in A history of the Edinburgh Burgess Golfing Society. Which is currently, known as The Royal Burgess Golfing Society. A plaque was made by the City of Edinburgh which suggests that the game of golf may have been invented and first played there on the Bruntsfield Links. The game of golf is played using several types of clubs, you hit a ball with a club into each hole on a golf course in the lowest possible number of strokes. Golf is one of the few ball games that does not use a standardized playing area, instead, the game is played on golf courses, each one is a unique design and usually consists of either 9 or 18 separate holes.

Playing the game of Golf:

Golf is based on playing a number of holes usually in a given order. A round today typically consists of 18 holes that are played in the order determined by the course. Golf courses have not always had eighteen holes though. As early as the 15th century, golfers at St Andrews, which is in Fife, established a customary route through the terrain, playing to holes whose locations were dictated by the layout of the land. The course that grew featured eleven holes, laid out end to end from the clubhouse to the far end of the property. You played the holes out, turned around, and then played the holes back in, for a total of 22 holes. It was decided in 1764 that a couple of holes were to short, and were combined. So the number was dropped from 11 to nine, which meant that a complete round of the links was now 18 holes. A hole of golf is hitting a ball from a tee in the teeing box and once the ball comes to rest, hitting it again until the ball is in the cup or the hole. Once the ball is on the green, which is the area around the hole, the ball is then putted into the hole. The goal of resting the ball in the hole in as few strokes as possible may be impeded by hazards, such as bunkers and or water hazards. There are other types of hazards, as at the 125-year-old Royal Colombo Golf Club in Sri Lanka a steam train runs through the course at the 6th hole.

Golf Ornaments:

The definition of Christmas tree ornaments comes to us from the route word ornament which is defined as an accessory used to beautify, enrich, or improve the appearance or general effect of an object. So many golfers love to put up a variety of golfing ornaments to embellish their tree.
