Are you aware of the saying that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder?” This is most probably true. However, unless all of your potential buyers are legally blind you must give serious attention as to how your interior decoration can compliment or hurt the selling price of your house. Below is a checklist of décor concerns that you must attend to before showing your house to potential clients.

1. Furniture displaying the symptoms ‘gigantism’ – A few years ago “oversized” was the all the rage in new style for furniture. But like most other trends that range from polyester leisurewear suites and keyboard ties to “Huey Lewis and the News” what used to be “in” then is most certainly not hip today. The setback with oversized furnishings is that they have the tendency to make even a large room feel confined.

Couches on steroids, King sized beds, overly large entertainment centers and yes guys, even the massive TV consuming half the room are pretty good examples of oversized furniture. All of these things can make the available space feel small and insufficient. Keep in mind that space is one of the primary things that buyers take into consideration. Do yourself a favor and get rid of some of these humongous pieces of furniture before you put your house up for sale.

2. The evident marks of the amateur do it yourselfer – All design shows that you see on the Home and Garden Channel make home repairs look like a breeze. It appears that all you merely need are a box of Popsicle sticks and a glue gun and you too can make your own indoor sauna. If it were only that easy. Seriously though, all of these shows use the aid of professionals. The end results that you see on TV are the product of years of professional experience.

Home repairs and finishes that are not done properly can adversely affect the selling price of your house. It is a cause for concern, when potential buyers spot a poorly done repair job. This may possibly raise apprehensions about what other things you may have tried to “fix” around the house. As a general rule, only if you really are a skilled and qualified craftsman you might want to leave the house work and repairs to the professionals.

3. Dirty laundry piles shouldn’t be a part of your interior decoration – This is a pretty common occurrence. It keeps on cropping up from time to time. This is usually found under the bed. When an agent brings a prospective buyer to see your house the sights and scents of old dirty laundry are a sure fire way to turn off potential buyers. This is pretty disgusting and unsanitary. Make sure to get rid of dirty laundry and place them in the appropriate area before accepting prospective buyers into your home. By remembering this you can at least avoid any embarrassing and uncomfortable situations.

4. Carpeted bathrooms – This one is just not right on so many levels. The bathroom is a moist and humid area. The toilet is also found there. To make it simple, having a carpet in your bathroom is like having a giant Petri dish. Just imagine what sort of things and organisms can possibly thrive in damp carpet.

In truth most would-be buyers won’t even set foot in carpeted bathrooms. This is pretty unhealthy and unhygienic. If this is applicable to you, make sure to get rid of your carpet before accepting guests into your house. You must keep in mind that all buyers are finicky and sensitive to any and all undesirable things that are present in your house.
