Garden lighting is an essential element to your outdoor garden design. Many people enjoy relaxing by their gardens during the evening hours; however, this activity is greatly hindered without proper garden lighting. Not only is your choice of garden lighting critical for the design elements of your garden, it is also practical. When the sun goes down and darkness descends upon your backyard, your garden area becomes unsafe. Choosing garden lighting is essential for ensuring that those who relax in your backyard during evening hours have ample light for seeing, walking, and enjoying the beauty of your garden.

One of the joys of having a garden is gathering with friends during late night hours. If you have a pool, you will definitely want to ensure that the surrounding area is lit up and that there is a clearly lit path to the garden as well as the pool. This not only prevents accidents but also adds beauty as the waters reflect the glow of the lights.

You don’t need to keep your backyard or garden area lit up as if the noonday sun has just appeared, but you will want to provide enough lighting for easy visibility as well as creating a mood. Fortunately, when it comes to creating a romantic mood in the garden area, the ample choices of garden lighting makes the task simple. However, whenever you add lights to your garden, you must always make certain that the lights you select are designed for outdoor use.

Adding lighting to walkways, porch and patio areas, and by swimming pools will ensure the safety of your late night visitors. Yet, if you would like to showcase a particular flower in your garden, swing set, or even a gazebo you might want to consider using a spotlight. In fact, you could even use imaginative strategies to create dramatic effects by placing a light in a very high location and angling it down on your centerpiece. Roofs, trees, and tops of sheds all make fantastic locations for housing accent lights that will create the drama your garden needs to be truly remarkable.

Another aspect of garden lighting that cannot be overlooked is lowlights that stake in the ground. These provide a wonderful feel and you can use them to line driveways, walkways, garden paths, or any area that you desire. Using lights behind the flowers in your garden will also make sure that they receive the attention they deserve. If you have evening blooming flowers such as jasmine or gardenia, you may want to consider showcasing these plants with targeted lighting or accent lights as well.

When placing garden lighting amongst the flowers in your flowerbed, try placing the lights at different heights as well as angles. This will create a wonderful play of light and shadow and the results are often magnificent.

Finally, there are many energy efficient garden lighting options available to help make certain that your garden is not only lit up and beautiful, but conserves energy as well. LED lights are designed to save energy while producing a wonderful level of illumination that is perfect for any garden.
