Admittedly, choosing room furniture for your kids' nurseries and bedrooms is a matter of choice. With the variety of choices out there - plastic or wood, natural or painted, mass manufactured or hand crafted, molded or free-flowing - you will be hard pressed to choose what is best for your children.

However, the best choices often come down to wooden furniture. This is especially true for children's table and chairs, which your children will be using both for play and for study. Here are the best reasons for going for wood.

Durability and Strength

Since hardwood is commonly used for furniture, you are assured of durability and strength. When the furniture is made by a reputable manufacturer, you can be assured of these qualities. In fact, with proper care, you can make heirloom out of children's table and chairs; just store them properly in the attic, and your grandchildren can use them, too.

Value for Money

You might have to spend more on wooden children's table and chairs, but you will be getting value for your money in the long run. You will get things of beauty and function, coupled with strength. Since wood does not break as easily as other materials, you can use wooden children's table and chairs for a long, long time. You need not buy over and over again!

Resale Value

Wooden furniture often is the most saleable items in a garage sale. The reasons usually range from the durability of the material and the allure of wood itself. For some, wood represents stability and antiquity. Thus, even if you do not wish to clutter your attic with your children's old furniture, then you can sell them to others.

Physical Health

You are more assured that your children will not come into contact with harmful chemicals when you choose wooden children's table and chairs. The paints and finishes applied are usually non-toxic in nature.

In fact, it has been shown that plastic additives and components negatively affect your child's health. For example, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) contains phthalates, cadmium, lead, light and heat stabilizers, anti-oxidants, and other chemical compounds. These pose health risks to children, particularly when ingested and smelled. In fact, you have to inquire from your doctor about allergies to plastic components before deciding on buying plastic products. You can purchase wood products with almost no such qualms.

Furthermore, wooden furniture is not prone to breakage. This makes for safer furniture since you will not worry so much about sharp points and ingestible parts, in contrast to plastic furniture.

Go Green!

You are contributing to the preservation of nature when you choose wooden children's table and chairs. Since these are more durable than plastic, you need not contribute to the waste brought by frequent disposal and buying of new products.

Also, the materials used often come from tree farms. This means that you are contributing to the preservation of the remaining natural resources of our planet. The trees used for your kids' furniture actually came from replenished resources.

This is not to say that you should never use plastic products; these have their advantages. However, when it comes to your kids' room furniture, you should settle for what is best for them. Go for wood!
