The most motivated people are those who do their work willingly without hesitation and are happy to do their jobs. Disgruntled employees who do their jobs merely to earn a living without the drive can drag the productivity of the whole group down leading to a failure. As the leader, a failure by one member of the group is a failure by all and it should be understood as such. Camaraderie is the key to harmony and healthy co-worker office relationships and a motivated team is the most productive team. Happiness lies when the group and the individuals that make up the group are at peace with co-workers and their superiors.

This is a hard thing to do for the structure of the business organization defines the boss as the leader of the pack and his employees as the workers. The drive to be productive places pressure on the group which results in dissatisfaction in between the members. A good leader always knows when his people need a break and when to asses that his efforts to motivate them are effective and getting results. One on one evaluations or meetings can be used to analyze the individual then turning to the whole group for his final analysis and adjustments to the approach towards the group and the individuals that make up the group is done as necessary.

Nice if your team has been under a lot of stress but beware of the occasional bummer should you decide to engage in activities that would be involving alcohol for it will take away any inhibitions and even respect in some cases. Be professional and treat your guys like friends and stop barking orders when out of the office except when on official business. It builds the confidence of people when you treat them as equals even for a few hours making them respect you more. Everybody needs a break from time to time and make that apparent to your people, know when to stop pushing or you might just push too much sending them over the edge and turn your motivated team into a disgruntled one. Remember that respect is earned and cannot be bought or asked for.

Take notes of fleeting ideas and encourage your staff to do the same, it allows you and your staff to all look back during your meetings to find ideas and points that would have otherwise been lost. It would be nice to get together once in a while to discuss things in the office to allow a free flow of ideas and opinion. Don’t forget to express your side in the process (you’re the boss, remember!) the best you could and if you can’t do it alone, you might have to do some reading on how to convey your ideas. There are good people and there are brilliant people who with a few words can rally others quite easily to support your clause. Complacency is the killer of success and assuming you are the best would be the sure sign that somewhere out there is somebody better than you!

Never get complacent with the performance of your team and make them understand that if you do not maintain your edge, somebody is gonna’ come along and beat you at your game. Making the right choices is not always easy and part of managing is conditioning your team to take defeat as a drive or motivation for improving performance. Invest in training and re-training for technology which usually drives the world is not always that transparent and re-education keeps people up to date and competitive. Capitalize on the strengths of the individuals who work for you and utilize those skills to establish them their role in the group.
