At USD215 , this pink and white plantation style beachfront inn, sitting on a six acre site, has been the place for an affordable family vacation that guests return to year after year.

Southern Palms is one of the original top St Lawrence Gap Hotels, sits on one of the best south coast beaches and has a satisfaction rating of over 70% of guests questioned. It is suitable not only as an affordable family vacation but also popular with honeymooners and independent travellers alike.

One of the things that makes Southern Palms stand out is it has a good reputation for service, and the fact that its standards are consistently high, and you can’t always say that about hotels in this much changed part of Barbados.

The 92 rooms and suites are either in the plantation style buildings or in a low rise building alongside the pool, and the whole hotel has quite recently been refurbished , allowing it to remain a very nice and quite grand property which most guests feel is quite charming, with a dignity not found in the modern hotel block.

All the rooms have some kind of sea view from their balconies or patios, and they are all air conditioned with private bathrooms, telephones, radio and television, and many have wireless access. Add to this that the Suites/Duplexes have a full kitchenette as well.

The Garden Terrace restaurant is where most meals are taken although there is a casual dining option in the Khus Khus Bar, and in the evening there is A la Carte, Table D’Hote, plus BBQ and Buffets., with live music three nights a week.

For the affordable family vacation the Southern Palms has very good and slightly different facilities. As a beachfront inn of course there is the lovely beach itself, with the watersports facilities which are complimentary, and this includes beach towels. The resort itself has two pools, two floodlit tennis courts, a mini golf course, and shuffleboard court.

There is no doubt from guest’s comments that the Southern Palms is a very well maintained resort, and this fact comes out frequently. Also the quality and size of the rooms, with the breathtaking views from a lot of the patios and balconies. The Southern Palms has its own security guards which is good for everyone’s peace of mind.

Very favourable comments about all of the staff, from reception, to the bellboys, to the maids, to the restaurant, are all very favourable with the big Barbados smile being much in evidence. An important comment which occurs again and again is that it is never difficult to get a sunbed, a very important thing for lots of people.

It certainly appears that Southern Palms is a lovely beachfront inn, where you can certainly have an affordable family vacation with a good level of comfort and service on Barbados.
