Raising a puppy isn't for the faint of heart. It requires a lot of strength and determination in order to be able to deal with the ups and the downs of having to raise a puppy. The distinction between a small dog and a small child isn't that great. At that time they are almost at the same level where they will not know what they should do and what they shouldn’t. This is why raising a puppy and a child can equate to the same amount of work. You need to be extra careful where you let them go and what they can play with. You have to make sure that when they are on the floor running around, that there isn't anything that they can pick up and eat that they shouldn’t. A lot of accidents happen this way where an unsuspecting owner of a puppy didn’t see something on the floor and they managed to get to it before you did. Don’t beat yourself up too much about it because there is almost no way you can stop this from happening. It is important that you try as best you can to make sure that you clean up as much as possible.

There are certain things that need to be done when first bring a puppy home. You need to puppy proof it so that he or she can’t go into places where you don’t want them to go. That means putting up barriers in front of rooms that you don’t want them in or areas of the house where you don’t want them. This is a great way to protect not only that room from him but him from that room. It also generally minimized the amount of cleaning you have to do as well because all you really have to focus on is cleaning the areas that you know he will be in instead of everywhere.

After puppy proofing your home, it’s time to bring your new friend over to visit. When you first do this it is very important that you watch him and see where he likes to go and what he is interested in. This is a great way to identify other areas that you might also have to “puppy proof” in order to protect him. For example if you see that in a certain area of the house some of the carpet is a bit mangled it is quite imperative that you prevent him from going over to that area. It might feel like it is a long shot that he will find it but with all the time he will be home it is actually more of a guarantee. You should also remember that he doesn’t have a good taste in his mouth so just about anything will taste good to him even carpet.

It is quite important that you take care of areas in your home that you think your new puppy can get into. Remember if it looks suspicious to you he will more than likely find it.
