The rising prices of gasoline, the seemingly impossible demands you face at work and at home, and the endless other things you have to do can probably make you want to jump off a cliff just so you can have a respite from everything and everyone around you. But you really do not have to do anything drastic as jumping off a cliff to help minimize your stress. No matter how chaotic or busy your life is, there are still many things you can do to eliminate pressure and strain in your life. Here are eight simple ways that can help you reduce stress:

Care For Some Plants

According to a study conducted by the Kansas State University, plants can help reduce stress. So if you think that your office or home is causing you a lot of pressure, you may want to add a plant or two in your surroundings to help keep pressure at bay. Plants give us a break from mental pressures whenever we look at them. Furthermore, some experts also believe that the act of planting itself can also provide reprieve from a very demanding day or week.

Chew A Gum

It may seem preposterous to you that a gum could help you deal with your stress woes. However, experts say that regular and rhythmic actions like chewing a bubble gum, does not only reduce brain activity, but also help in slowing down breathing and heart rate. Furthermore, such activities can also set off the natural relaxation reaction of a person. So the next time you feel like you are in the middle of a chaotic environment, buy some gum and start chewing.

Bask In The Sun

A little sunshine can perk up the mood of anyone. If you want to reduce your stress levels, simply step out of the office and walk around the park for a few minutes. However, it is best that you go out in the morning because the sunrays at noon, particularly from 10 am to 3 pm, can be bad for the skin.

Go Ahead And Sing

Singing out loud is actually a stress coping mechanism that many people do. However, not many are aware that singing in the shower or while alone in the bedroom can actually help a lot in bringing down stress levels. Your blood pressure and heart rate is greatly reduced whenever you breathe deeply, which is what happens when you sing. As mentioned earlier, reduced heart rate and blood pressure help relieve tension and stress.

Do An Act Of Kindness

Doing something good or selfless can actually make you feel happy about yourself. In effect, it can ease some of your stress. An act of kindness also promotes the release of brain chemicals that are responsible for good mood and feelings of happiness and content. So the next time your boss demands something that you know is impossible to do, instead of nourishing that feeling of disgust, you can choose to donate to charity or do something good instead. This way, you are not only spreading kindness but also helping yourself relax a little bit.

Don't Be Blue, Stare At Blue

Since people associate blue with the calmness of the sky and the beauty of an ocean or sea, many reach for solace by staring at things that are blue. So if you want to feel calm and relax, you can start staring at anything that has a shade of blue; choose a hue that is light or similar to the skies.

Sniff On Plant Essences

The smell of certain flowers and plants has been well documented to make a person feel calm and stress-free. If you think you will have a stressful day at work, you can put on a perfume or cologne that has chamomile and lavender tones. If you are so tired and you feel physically weak and stressed out, soaking in a bubble bath infused with green tea and peppermint aromatic oils will really ease your physical pain away.

Do Some Detox

Sometimes the food that you eat makes you more irritable, moody and prone to stress. Thus, you need to be careful with what you put inside your mouth. If you love to eat fast, processed and junk foods, then you need to undergo some detoxification to help lighten your mood and lessen your stress levels.
