It is our dream to be always stress free not depending on the external circumstances and we would really love to be so. How can you be peaceful no matter what is happening around you? Believe it or not, there is someone inside you who is telling you something of the following:-

1. You don't deserve to be peaceful and stress free.

2. How can you be peaceful and calm when you have so many tasks to be fulfilled, your future is at stake and you haven't rally performed up to the mark?

3. You have done your job, now there are more expectations from your boss, be aware(tensed) all the time.

Starting to get a picture here of your inner self. This has been because of the way you are brought up and most people can't understand that upbringing in your earliest childhood days (1-7 years) was done in such a fashion that it became too tough to get calmness and peace in your life even now (where you are at).

If you carefully examine our inner resistance to events and sensations you will find that they usually don't mean anything. Our mind tries to create stories around them and a lot of it is influenced by the qualities of what we took from our elders during childhood.

Ok, so the other day I realized the heat was making me sweaty and sticky, when I came out of the class. It was a lot of irritation. If you analyze that it was just a sensation and no different to the sensation of rolling around in the softest silk sheets. But since our mind created story around it and constantly kept telling us that this sweatiness has to be irritating, we feel irritation. Imagine yourself sweaty after running around the beach with a supermodel in a bikini, or hell, doing sex with your partner. Does swat after sex bring irritation? Of course not. Even though it's the same sweat and the same stickiness, the mind has something positive around it and the story it created was utterly pleasing one. So we escaped irritation there

The mind has so many thoughts and concerns at a given time makes a story around the sensation regarding those thoughts.. "This feeling is not something I want." "I'm too smart and good looking and sweat makes me stink. I have to impress my colleagues."

You get the idea, this happens whenever you want something and your mind contains a contradictory story around it.(The earlier examples of trying to feel relaxed and peaceful)

So, the best way to reduce stress and contradictions is to turn the mind off. Stop the thoughts and it can no longer make a story around the heat, and then what you are feeling just becomes a sensation. This has been noticed in several meditation classes, that after a while, the heat in the room actually became quite pleasant to the meditators.

You can apply the same concept to almost everything in life like you can stop th mind trying to build a story around something you own. If you are living in a house that you are unhappy with, you can change the mind's outlook by letting go of inner resistance. Finally you go with the flow, you roll with the punch, and there is nothing inside you that causes you to have dissatisfaction.

Gradually you will come to notice the effects it will have like ability of controlling the thoughts of your mind. If you realize, sleeping in a small house doesn't feel that much different from sleeping in a huge mansion and thus there was nothing that should have you concerned..

This is the principle that has been taught in major philosophies worldwide, and one can really understand the correlation of outer and inner spaces in one's life. Many great thinkers have suggested that mind is something totally different from the physical world and you can mold it to your own desire even though the world has taught something different continuously.

Please understand this philosophy is not encouraging you to let yourself be abused, indulge in self negligence or do any harm to yourself. We are talking about inner resistance, which is very different from outer resistance. If someone is slapping you around you don't have to stand there and let them do it. Stop them or Call the police. This is not inner resistance and it's not wrong. If you are told by the boss to do some assignment , you better do it! But remember, if you want to feel pleasant and calm then there is nothing outside that should bother you, remember to fulfill your duties though.
