When I was developing our Internet based, real estate web sites in Florida, I was asked all the time about the best way to select an Internet marketing company.

For most people new to Internet and search engine marketing, it is all very confusing because they don't understand the lingo, they don't understand what search engine companies do for them (or what they are supposed to do for them), and they see tremendous claims from companies when they perform a Google search.

Let's suppose for a minute that you have decided to make web based sales a big part of your Florida marketing strategy. Let's now review a few steps that you should be taking to retain a top notch search engine optimization (SEO) company or SEO consultant.

Look For A Track Record On Their Own Site(s)

To us, this is the most important step. If somebody has not been successful at 1) positioning their own sites and 2) generating substantial revenues from their own sites, then why would you want them advising you? You absolutely are looking for a been there and done that type of company or consultant.

Have Them Explain In Detail What They Plan To Do

We always suggest interviewing a minimum of the 3 companies or consultants. - Constant evolution of approaches to CONVERT incoming traffic into sales.... Very few SEO companies truly do this well largely because they have not done it for themselves.

Work With The SEO Company To Establish Realistic Goals

Anybody with a web site obviously wants to rank #1 in Google and all other search engines for everything related to their web site. Unfortunately, unless you plan on spending a BUNCH of money, that is just not realistic. Before you and your SEO company start a campaign, both of you should be onboard with what you can expect, the amount of traffic that might ultimately result, and the steps that will likely be needed.

If you follow these steps, you are likely to end up with a good choice for an SEO company or consultant. However, I will warn you, to accomplish these goals costs real money. If you find somebody that claims to do all of this for a small, we caution you to be very, very careful. "
