How to Deal With Arthritis Without Losing Your Machismo

When John was in his twenties, he thought that he was impervious to serious health conditions. He drank all the alcoholic beverages he had his hands on, smoked packs of cigarettes a week, feasted on foods that were bad for his health and even deprived his body of much needed sleep. But now that he is in his early fifties, he realized that his body is not invincible after all. He now feels weak, sluggish, and aching all over his joints.

This scenario is really nothing new in the US today. A lot of baby boomers are now starting to feel a little older and not as strong and healthy as they were before. If you find yourself in this generation, you should not feel bad. There is still hope for you. All you have to do is to start changing your habits for the better and start feeling happy. Below are some ways in which you can have more energy and strength.

Lean Is Mean

Burgers and fries should no longer be your food of choice. Now that you are in an age when your metabolism starts to slow and your organs are not the well-oiled machines that they used to be, you have to be more conscious about what you eat.

If you want to get rid of your arthritic pain, you have to lose some pounds. In time, your problem will become more severe if you don't do something about your weight as the excess pounds are putting more pressure on your knees and joints.

Be An Exercise Machine

If you love lounging on your chair or couch for hours on end, then it is not really surprising that you are suffering from lack of energy or even obesity. If you want to look and feel young and have more energy, you need to break some sweat.

However, you cannot be an exercise machine overnight. You have to do it slowly but surely, especially if you have been living a sedentary life. Start by walking more and climbing stairs instead of using the elevator. After a few weeks, you can start a more intense exercise regimen.

Staying strong and active doesn't have to be boring. Instead of pumping iron in the gym, you can probably do activities that you love which, at the same time, can tone your muscles and make you fitter. Dancing, jogging, playing Frisbee, running, swimming, mountain climbing, Yoga, Pilates, Capoiera, doing martial arts, pole dancing and even fidgeting for hours can all give you more energy.

Bright Is Right

If you are a fan of Dennis the Menace, you will realize that Mrs Wilson looks much younger and healthier than the glum old Mr Wilson. You know why? It is not because of the pesky kid Dennis, but because Mr Wilson is always mad and frowning. It seems that he is against the world all the time.

Instead of wasting your time feeling bad or furious about the things that you cannot do anything about, you can concentrate your efforts in thinking positive and doing things that can make your life better. Think positive thoughts, laugh more, and smile a lot and you will feel happier and look a lot younger.

Go Ahead, Ask Some Help

There is really nothing wrong with acknowledging that there are things that you need some help with. If you think that your look is stuck in the eighties, then there is nothing wrong with asking your children, friends, your stylist, or even your spouse to help you get a makeover. There is really nothing unmanly about asking someone to make you look a little sharper.

If you are not into injections and cosmetic procedures, you can always improve the feel of your skin by using moisturizers and anti-aging creams. Nowadays, there are many products that are specially made for men so you don't have to feel that you are splashing gooey women-stuff on your face and neck.

Lastly, you have to do something about your arthritis and other pains. It is not very youthful to be walking with a cane. So even before you use a cane, start doing something about your joints and bone problems. Drink plenty of water, maintain normal weight, build your muscles, and start taking supplements that contain ingredients like chrondroitin and glucosamine sulfate to ease the pain and stop the progression of your disease.
