The unit looks like a long cylinder. There is a fan inside the coil to propel the air along the coil. In this task a compressor that is resistant to weather and some control mechanisms are also used.

The name is given because the hot and cold sides have been split apart enabling for larger capacity. Bigger sized coils and compressors can now be accommodated.
