Think of the word “security camera.” What images first come to mind? We usually think about their function of protecting people through the prevention of an array of crimes, such as theft. However, surveillance camera systems can be used for a variety of other uses.

Watching dogs like a hawk

In fact, Great Britain, which has the world’s highest number of security cameras per capita, has used the cameras for a variety of interesting investigations that go beyond burglar-busting. These include false damage claims, monitoring people who work while on sick leave, littering, and misuse of parking passes for handicapped people. And in one of the most interesting set of cases, local governments investigated dogs that did their “business” on public property. Like any other tool, security cameras should be used properly. That includes using them in moderation, and ensuring that the owners of the cameras do not misuse the collected footage.

Cat cousins and Dog daughters

However, speaking of pets, video surveillance systems, such as those using 8 channel DVR cards, can be instrumental in keeping your pet dog, cat, bird, or iguana, safe and sound. In countries such as the United States and England, pets are more than animals that live in your house—they are often members of the family.

Pets are big business in America. Some animal lovers are willing to dish out several thousands of dollars, for a rare breed. And of course, all pet owners must constantly ensure that one of our pets’ most basic needs is met: food. Last year, in the United States alone, people spent over $16 billion on pet food. That is a whole lot of doggy milk bones, cat snacks, and flakes for fishes!

Insuring Fido and Fluffy

To protect pets of a rare breed, you could secure an insurance policy. Of course, none of us animal loves likes to consider the possibility that our beloved pet could be petnapped. But as one saying instructs, it is wise to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

However, keep in mind that if you do that, you have to hold up your end of the bargain.

In particular, exclusions are implemented when you fail to keep the animal in its natural surroundings. For the policy to remain valid, you must also feed it the right foods, and feed it regularly. So if you have, for example, a marmoset monkey in your house, make sure that the temperature remains proper, and that it gets its daily dose of Vitamin D3.

Petnapping is no catnap

Also, security camera systems with 8 channel dvr cards, can do more than protect ourselves and our children. They can also keep an eye on our pets, even when we are out of the house. In petnapping, pets are stolen, with the criminals often demanding a ransom.

If you own a pet, the animal is more than an investment, so you want it to remain safe and secure 100% of the time. One of the best ways to maintain this goal, is through video surveillance systems, which can include 8 channel dvr cards. Make it your next pet project!
