Accidents are not a joking matter and you must ensure that you never get into an accident where it’s your fault because it could cost you thousands of dollars over the years. An accident can affect your insurance rates for as long as ten years after the actual accident, which means you will be paying for your mistake for up to ten years.

If you’re already an established driver then you won’t be hit as hard on the insurance rate spike, but you can expect to pay up to 15-50% more depending on your age and how long you’ve been with your current insurance company. Some insurance companies will value their clients and if you have a good driving record and then get into an accident after being with them for many years then they may give you a free pass on your accident, which means you won’t pay for it for the next ten years. Not all companies do this though so don’t assume you will get away with being in an accident.
