Damaged hair comes with too many complications—split ends, brittleness, even hair breakage. This is often caused by too much blow drying, prolonged exposure to the sun, and also the use of hair chemicals such as colorants. Fortunately, even the most badly-damaged hair can still be remedied. There are ways to restore damaged hair to its former days of being healthy and shiny.

The Steps Toward Hair Renewal

1. Damaged hair almost always comes with split ends. These can be trimmed off as trimming is the only solution to stop the splits from worsening. There are many products in the market that state otherwise. They claim that using their hair care products would no longer require snipping off the split ends. There is nothing farther from the truth than this. Cutting the splits on hairs is the only solution. No product could stop the split from reaching up to the shaft.

2. For people with a moderate damage to their hair, it is always best to invest on shampoos and conditioners. There are many products to choose from yet buying the right one requires knowing one’s hair type and texture.

3. Sometimes, too much shampooing could lead to dry scalp. This is why it is best to keep the use of shampoos to a minimum. Daily shampooing strips the hair of natural oils (which are necessary to keeping hair healthy and moisturized). Every second day washing should do.

4. There are now many products in the market that have high protein content. There are also reconstructors which help bring back the luster and health of extremely damaged or dry hair. Proteinizers strengthen the hair and a reconstructor’s job is to replace the molecules that have been stripped from one’s hair.
5. There are now some products in the market that have silicone in them. Silicone is a natural shine enhancer and it can also protect the hair from damage caused by styling tools.

6. A person with damaged hair must stay as far away from the sun as possible. The use of blow dryers, hot rollers and curling irons must also be limited. Heat damages hair, and this is especially true with extreme heat.

7. Having healthy hair means having frequent trims. It is advisable to have monthly trimmings to maintain healthy-looking hair.

8. People with dry or dull hair could try using semi-permanent hair colors which could coat the hair strands and make them appear lustrous. These semi-permanent colorants have no ammonia so they are not harmful to any type of hair.

9. Hair gloss can now be purchased in most beauty shops and they come in solutions that do not cause hair damage. These also do not change the natural color of the hair strands so one can choose to keep his natural hair color.

10. The most important part of renewing one’s hair is not only to take care of it but also to love it. Loving hair means freeing it from harmful chemicals such as those found in perm solutions and hair sprays; keeping tight bands away; and also avoiding the sun as much as possible. In addition to these, a person must also make sure that he eats a balanced diet. A healthy diet is comprised of foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals (all necessary in making hair healthy).
