Most netting is made from nylon, polyester, or high tenacity polypropylene, a plastic polymer with amazing strength and resilience. Netting is used in almost every environment or industry for some functional or safety-related task. Amusement parks, theme parks, and water parks rely heavily on netting for child safety and crowd control. Many types of industrial facilities and service centers use to form protective barriers around maintenance bays in auto, truck, bus, and rail service centers. In the construction world, the use of safety nets, debris containment nets, and lifting nets are critical to operations. Mesh offers two major benefits to material handling and safety environments. Mesh has very fine holes that allow light to penetrate its surface but does not allow for clear visibility to the other side. Mesh can be used as a substitute for a wall when sensitive areas need to be blocked off from the view of unauthorized personnel. Equally, if not more importantly, mesh is highly tenacious and optimal for debris containment and lifting.

Workers are often standing or walking around on elevated platforms. This is common in large warehouses with mezzanine systems and on almost every type of construction site. A fall from even a relatively short distance can result in permanent injury or death. Protective netting installed around these platforms forms a wall-like barrier to prevent this from happening.

Events and outdoor public facilities can become so crowded that it is necessary to restrict access to certain areas and to direct traffic along certain pathways. Polyester or polypropylene barriers can be obtained in a variety of low profile and even decorative designs that limit mobility without overpowering the scenery.
