The land of Greece has been around for thousands of years and although much of the power that they held is now a matter of history, it is certainly an interesting history to research. At one point during its rise to power, it contained an area of land that spread the entire way from the modern-day land of Greece to Egypt and from the Hindu Kush mountain range, all the way to Pakistan. Although it does not contain much area outside the actual land of Greece any longer, it still has a history that many individuals are interested in looking into. Here are some of the most notable individuals that came down of the Grecian history.

One of the more interesting individuals and probably one of the best-known to come out of Greece is Alexander the great. He is one of the most noted military men from history and his rule extended for several years in which he took over much of the then known world. As a matter of fact, if his life was not cut short at that time, he may have continued his military conquest well into the Arabian Peninsula. Much of the military victories that he achieved came within the 12 years after he came into power. His life was cut short, however, as a result of malaria. There is also some thought that he may have been poisoned or it may have been another virus that took his life. After his fall from power, his military machine was split into four separate parts and given to four of his top generals. One of these generals later became the head of what would eventually become known as the great Roman empire.

There were also many poets from this particular time period, one of the most notable being a poet named Homer. Believe it or not, this man may never have actually have existed and many scholars feel as though he were a compilation of a variety of different epic poets during that particular time. It is thought that if he was a man, that Homer was not his real name. If this man did live, it would seem that his life was during the middle of the ninth century, B.C. There are some other people, however, that put his life more toward the time of the Trojan war.

Although it is not necessarily an individual from history, the Trojan war is one of the more interesting things that happened to this particular culture. This is also something that may or may not have some basis in actual history. The Trojan war is a mythological war that was fought against the city of Troy. In order to obtain access to the city, which was reported to have extremely high walls, a large hollow horse was constructed and some of the elite fighting forces were hidden inside. Once this horse gained access to the city because it was considered to be a gift of peace, the soldiers came from the inside and quickly overtook the city by surprise.
