Arthritis 101: How Carotenoids and Multivitamins Can Help

Arthritis symptoms can be different for every patient. In fact, not everyone who suffers from it will have the same degrees or severity of pain and discomfort. But one thing is for sure, if and when you suddenly experience having stiffness and pain in your joints, then it is definitely time to visit your doctor: you may be suffering from arthritis.

So what is arthritis? This disease can be made up of two dozen other disorders, at the very least. But the main indication that comes with it is the inflammation of your joints which brings about intolerable pain in the affected areas. Some arthritic attacks can be so unbearable that doing even the most ordinary tasks can prove to be impossible.

Arthritis is essentially triggered by the deterioration of the cartilage that cushions the joints. As you know, your cartilage acts as your body's very own shock absorbing system. But when it becomes eroded or damaged due to injuries, poor food choices, natural aging process and even too much usage, the bones in your joints will begin to rub against each other unprotected and less lubricated.

This rubbing action is the source of all the pain and discomfort associated with arthritis. Just imagine your bones gnashing on each other every time you move and you can already feel the pain. The good news is that there are ways that you can minimize your risks of suffering from this disease.

Stop Arthritis With Carotenoids

According to a research done at UK's University of Manchester, certain forms of carotenoids found in food can significantly minimize one's chances of developing or suffering from arthritis. The types of carotenoids that have been proven to alleviate the symptoms of the disease include zeaxanthin and beta-cryptoxanthin.

Beta-cryptoxanthin mainly acts as a precursor to Vitamin A. And your doctor can tell you how important Vitamin A is in improving the health of your skin and bones. With the proper amounts of the right carotenoids, your body will have ample supplies of Vitamin A; hence you can look forward to healthier bones and joints.

Traces of important carotenoids can be found in fruits or vegetables that are yellow or orange in color. Examples are lemon, kiwifruit, papaya, cantaloupe, yellow apples and peaches among others.

Relieve Arthritis With Multivitamins

Studies have shown that taking the right multivitamins can be good for patients who are suffering from arthritis. As you may well know, the food that you eat everyday may lack the necessary nutrients that can improve your joint and overall health. Multivitamins contain nutrients that would not otherwise be available for you by just relying on the salad or fruits on your plate.

But it is not enough to just pop any multivitamin capsule in your mouth. If you want to relieve the pain that you are experiencing due to arthritis, it is important that you choose multivitamin formulations that include substances essential to your bone health.

Stuff like thiamine, panthotenic acid, riboflavin and other derivatives of folic acid and B vitamins are important for the maintenance of healthy bone marrow and overall nervous system. Supplements that contain Vitamin D are also necessary to help in the proper development and ensure the strength of your bones.

If you are already into healthy diet, you have a much bigger chance of having enough essential nutrients for your joints. But again, this can be difficult to achieve; besides, you need to eat significant amounts of a particular health food for you to really reap the benefits, taking essential nutrients from multivitamins saves you from that trouble.
