Being Europe’s Capital of Culture this 2008 is not a small job. Liverpool, this year’s acclaimed culture capital stands now as an ultimate host for a hundred and one exciting events that will leave its guest bedazzled.

If you are planning to spend a week or two at the Liverpool City Region, then brace yourself. This year, Liverpool is not its usual self- it’s busier and boozier than ever.

Aside from the many fine attractions that this city has when it comes to arts and culture, Liverpool will add more to the fun and excitement of touring the city’s fine cultural sites. This year, the cultural capital will host a wide range of events, festivals, performances, debates, exhibitions, lectures and films that feature an extra dose of cultural spice. Brace yourself for about 350 events to highlight Liverpool’s rich history and culture. Among this city’s fine collection of heritage-themed events include the following:

The Arabic Arts Festival

A proof to Liverpool’s appreciation for diversity and foreign culture, this year’s cultural program includes the Arabic Arts Festival. The said event will feature one of the major highlights for this year- Taoub-Collectif Acrobatique de Tangier. The performance is characterized as a dramatic acrobatic show immersed with the traditional Arabic music and songs that will be played live on the site.

The show is one of the works of Director Aurelian Bory. Bory is an acclaimed figure in the world of French contemporary circus. He is known by many as one who combines modern styles and humor to an otherwise conventional set of ancient traditions and practices.

The Art in the Age of Steam

Steam Trains are this exhibits major attraction. As another main attraction for this year’s celebration of arts and culture, The Art in the Age of Steam exhibit will let the guests take a look at a hundred paintings, photographs, prints and drawings from around the globe. Such works of art were gathered to comprise the historical and cultural peek at the beginnings of steam trains in 1830s up to its end in the 1960s.

The said exhibit aims to let the spectators see how artists have dramatically responded to the astounding effects of steam trains to the society and the environment.

The Liverpool Summer Pops

The 10,000 seater Echo Arena nestled at the Kings Dock waterfront of Liverpool will be the home of this year’s Liverpool Summer Pops. The said event is one of the major “marks in the calendar” for this year as it will feature a wide variety of world class performers.

Gustav Klimt’s Paintings

Famous works of art and paintings of world-renowned artist Gustav Klimt will be featured at Liverpool which experts believed is the biggest exhibition of Klimt’s works in the United Kingdom. Klimt is also known as the founder of the Viennese Secession.

Magical Show by Artichoke and La Machine

Another must-see in Liverpool this year is the enchanting theatrical shows which will be featured by Artichoke and La Machine. These two companies are working side by side to produce a spectacular event especially for Liverpool’s big year as the 2008 European Capital of Culture. The show is deemed to highlight Liverpool’s natural beauty and magnificent architectures as backdrop of the live theater.
