Finding the right person to do work on your home can be both challenging and frustrating. Many people have wildly negative stories to tell when discussing the long list of unreliable professionals that have done work on their home. If you find a respectful, talented individual or company to perform the required maintenance or complete the desired project, hold on to that person or persons, as they are invaluable.

A contracted painter will often hold himself to a very high standard and take pride in his work. Unfortunately, this is not always the case as many painters are out for one thing and one thing only: money. This is quite ironic, as many do not realize the potential earnings they can make from repeat customers or customer referrals. Sadly, these painters do shoddy work with no real substance that leaves the homeowner or client extremely dissatisfied and often leads him or her looking for another contracted painter the next time they need a painting job. It is not always their work that makes them a lousy contractor, but the manner in which they conduct themselves throughout the time you have them under contract to paint your home. From unsightly tire marks ripping up your lawn to the occasional sloppy spill with no apology or attempt to clean it up, these contractors can be a nightmare for homeowners. The key is to do a little bit of research about the contractor before making the hire.

A good contracted painter will usually offer a website or brochure with samples of jobs they have done or testimonials from former and current clients. If they do not have this available, it does not mean they are going to be a bad contractor, however. You can tell a lot about a person by meeting them and speaking with them. If a person is friendly and outgoing and willing to answer all of your questions without treating them as stupid or unnecessary questions, it is a safe bet that this contracted painter would be an asset to your home repair project. If the contractor is weird, distant, unwilling to make eye contact and treats your questions with an air of disgust, this attitude will probably reflect very poorly on the finished product they offer upon completion of the project. This rule, unfortunately, is not fool proof, as many contractors displaying these two behavior patterns will turn out to display quite the opposite work ethic or skill as the project progresses. It is, however, a fairly reliable measure of character and personality.

Smaller paint contractor teams tend to be more personable and willing to speak to their clients than the larger contractors. This is often the case with small and large businesses in any industry. The smaller business is usually willing to strike more of a relationship with their clients and will be more concerned with customer satisfaction than the larger corporations or contractors that probably have an impressive client list. These are just a few things to keep in mind when hiring a contracted painter.
