The day has finally come! In the age of portable music players, computers, phones and even televisions, the air conditioner is finally joining the mix. Although they haven’t become a must-own item yet, portable air conditioners are slowly increasing in popularity. And who wouldn’t want one? A regular air conditioner has always been difficult to maintain, for it often breaks down and secretes water, or has to have a hole drilled into the wall when being attached. For those who are tired of having to get a stepstool in order to change the air conditioner’s settings, then the portable air conditioner is perfect for you. With this guide, you can see the exceptional qualities that make this unique type of air conditioning so great, which can help you when choosing a brand.

The first aspect you have to factor in is price. Just like how some cellular phones nowadays cost much more than ordinary telephones, the portable air conditioner actually costs more than what is referred to as a ‘window unit’, because it is portable. However, for certain rooms, houses and apartments, sometimes, window installation is not possible. This is where portability comes in handy, which is why the portable AC unit is worth its price. A unit can range from a measly $90 to a whopping $650, depending on the capabilities.

Many reviewers have said that window units work better than portable ones. Generally, this is true, simply because ordinary air conditioners are better equipped for the task. Portable air conditioners’ main function is to be able to cool a room from any socket, and its transferability is its strong point. Sure, a window unit may provide better cooling, but with the portable AC unit, it can be brought anywhere during an extremely hot day at home. Usually weighing between fifty and ninety pounds, installation is easy, and the unit may simply be dragged around.

Noise is also a factor when dealing with AC units, and window or wall units are notorious for sometimes emitting a very loud, constant humming noise, or even screeching when they break down. Cheap portable air conditioners may also be noisy, yes, but depending on the price. More expensive units generally offer more silence and peace for the owner.

Maintenance is an important thing to consider when choosing whether to buy a portable air conditioner. Wall or window units are to be placed partially outside for a reason: the exhaust is released into the outside world instead of inside the room. Since portable AC units also need to do this in order to keep the air quality inside the room good, they usually come with a long exhaust tube, which must be vented out somewhere. Other than that, portable air conditioners are easy to use and take care of, and are durable enough to last for many years.

With those aspects in mind, picking the ideal portable air conditioner will be easier for anyone who is interested in getting one. By choosing the right one, customers can achieve the chilling satisfaction they deserve.
