Losing weight has obvious advantages and for the most part, staying healthy and within your comfortable weight range converts into a longer life. At times it does appear that many are trying weight loss programs around the same time, typically leading into the summer. Actually, there are a series of reasons why a person may want to lose weight, and most of these reasons are justified.

Losing weight does have great advantages, assuming the reasons are related to good mental and physical health and overall wellness. However, in some cases, peer pressure, typically in females may drive a person to fall into the clutches of eating disorders and suddenly drop body weight to unconventional levels which require intervention and professional assistance.

Body Mass Index

What defines a person as overweight? Currently, the medical rule of thumb is to apply a person’s actual weight over their height. The BMI Chart is used to represent a person’s level of risk as it relates to potential overweight issues. BMI is the measurement tool that isolates a person’s weight against their height. Once your BMI is identified and secured on the chart, you can easily highlight your levels of risk; underweight, normal, overweight and obese.

Risk Factors

The most obvious advantage to dieting is you will optimize your bodies overall health and immunity to disease and viruses. Once you can identify your BMI , this will quickly identify your risk levels. People who have high risk tend to demonstrate a number of disease and conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, and intestinal diseases. These symptoms can be prevented and more easily treated if you’re at an maximum physical and mental state.

Maintaining a healthy weight is something that you and your doctor should discuss in order to optimize your body’s immunities. Ultimately, with good councel from your doctor, you can make the best decisions for your body’s overall wellness.

Your body is like a car. If you fill a tank of gas with terrible low octane gas and then fasten heavy baggage on the roof of the car and inside the car so you can no longer see out of the back window and then start the car and drive, how is the car going to perform?

Firstly, the wheels will somewhat deflate due to all the weight, the car is going to struggle down the road, make pinging noises and run out of gas very quickly. We’ve seen this much too often and if this scenario continues the result is the car breaks down and is out of commission far quicker than its warranty period elapses.

Imagine now if you will, a lifestyle of eating junk food, no exercise , minimal sleep, overworked , and taking care of three small children, handing them off to your spouse as you pass each other through the doorway on the way to work or coming home from an 10 hour day. These realities in life require one to pay attention to their bodies and increase your body’s performance so you can physically and mentally deal with all the tasks required in raising a family and maintaining your own personal well being.

This applies to everyone regardless of marital status, age, culture, race, ethnicity, etc. These are global issues and concerns that share one common goal – lose the weight, get healthy and enjoy life!
