The U.S Department of State has a website for those seeking a visa that is useful as well as professional. If you want firsthand information that hasn’t been diluted by word of mouth, the U.S Department of State will be your first step when it comes to getting the visa you need for traveling legally within the United States.

Sometimes, government websites can be as confusing as the agency spokesperson. However, you need updated information, warnings, and documents that online the correct agency can offer you.

With so many types of visas available, you will want to insure you apply for the correct visa. In addition, you will want to make sure you know what goes along with the visa you are applying for. With information changing on a regular basis, you will want to avoid the, “But I could do that last week, why not today?” syndrome. Things and situation do change, and it is up to you to stay on top of the latest developments and laws.

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) was implemented in 1986, and allows nationals from currently 27 countries to travel within the United States for up to 90 days without the need for a visa. Today, all VWP travelers are actually screened prior to their admission into the US. In addition, WVP travelers must be enrolled in the US-Visit program administered by the Department of Homeland Security.

Currently, these travelers from there countries may be eligible for the WVP:

-- Andorra
-- Australia
-- Austria
-- Belgium
-- Brunei
-- Denmark
-- Finland
-- France
-- Germany
-- Iceland
-- Ireland
-- Italy
-- Japan
-- Liechtenstein
-- Luxembourg
-- Monaco
-- the Netherlands
-- New Zealand
-- Norway
-- Portugal
-- San Marino
-- Singapore
-- Slovenia
-- Spain
-- Sweden
-- Switzerland
-- United Kingdom

The biometrics by which we are identified often include our physical characteristics to identify us. The United States has many ways of storing biometrics from iris scans to facial recognition. These biometrics are unique identifying characteristics that insure our identity. Today, the most common biometric used on a global basis is our unique fingerprint.

If you are planning on obtaining a US visa, you will find that your biometric information is a digital photo and electronic fingerprints. Your fingers will be scanned at the consular’s office at the interview process. In addition, even if you are applying for a WVP, there are standards you must meet. If you are entering the US with the WVP, you must present a machine-readable passport as your identification.

The fee for a typical visa application will vary from no fee to up to USD 500. Of course, there are other fees you may incur such as if you utilize a professional visa service for assistance in applying and obtaining your visa.

When it comes to obtaining your visa, you do have options. Knowing what to expect beforehand will insure you are ready to travel. Of course, finding the right company to help you will definitely make this process easier while insuring you stay legal. Whether traveling from Mexico or Russia, you will find you need to work with a visa program to further guarantee the safety of you as well as your host country.
