Galveston is located in the Southeast portion of the Texas Gulf Coast. Galveston has a rich history and today is a tourist attraction including Moody Gardens, Schlitterbahn, the Strand, and many historical museums and mansions. The Strand is the historic Landmark District; which is a tourist attraction that includes antique stores, restaurants, historical exhibits, art galleries, and more. And the Strand is home to two seasonal festivals each year. In fact Galveston was supposed to be the main hub for trade and was a thriving city is the late eighteen hundreds with a population of around 37,ooo people. Its location along the Gulf of Mexico is idea for trade and Galveston had one of the largest cotton ports in the entire country. However; in 1900 one of the most devastating hurricanes made landfall on the island which was a catastrophic event for the entire city. This still is the record in regards to the deadliest natural disaster in the United States. On that morning a storm surge of near fifteen feet hit the coast. Dozens of building were destroyed and over 3.600 houses were smashed to pieces. The wind speeds increased to well over one hundred miles an hour. Thousands of people were killed and the city was decimated. In fact there were so many bodies; they were taken out into the ocean and dumped; however the current brought the bodies back in. A seawall was constructed in 1902; it is ten miles long and around seventeen feet high and sixteen feet thick. It has since never been broached.

However the damage had already been done as the city has never regained it increasing popularity. And with the construction of the Houston Ship Channel; it stalled the growth of Galveston. After more than one hundred years the population sits just above 57,ooo people. It however did spurn the growth of Houston, Texas. Galveston is the home for the University of Texas at Galveston Medical Branch; and it currently employs fifteen thousand people. Nonetheless many tourists come year each year and enjoy the beaches, restaurants, fishing, more.

Apartment construction is non-existent in Galveston. Most of the apartment communities were built in the seventies and eighties. Don’t expect granite counters with luxurious closet space and tons of amenities. Many of the communities have been renovated though. However; Galveston Texas Apartments can provide something most apartments cannot. Waterfront views and access to the beach are two highly sought amenities. And the rental rates of Apartments in Galveston are extremely generous. Renters can discover one bedrooms that begin in the $500 range. Ocean Front Lofts, a condominium style apartment community; offers residents large patios, and covered parking. Even though they do not have washer and dryers in the units themselves; the community does have six onsite laundry room facilities. However, some Galveston apartments do feature stackable washer and dryers in the units. Apartments in Galveston rates have held steady for many years. If the population continues to remain minimal in the city; expect the prices to remain steady for years to come.
