The AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape) is one of the most reliable, robust, efficient and high speed backup data storage medium. The AIT tape format provides the enterprises with the best results and also reduces the operational cost. The AIT backup tapes have high storage capacitates ranging from 25 Gigabytes to 400 Gigabytes. And their compressed storage capacity ranges from 65 Gigabytes to 1040 Gigabytes. The AIT backup data tape products is used by many enterprises all over the world that include the Financial Institutes and also the Government Agencies.

The Advanced Intelligent Tape was introduced into the market in the year 1996.
Since then the AIT backup tape has gain popularity because it has high storage capacity along with high data transfer speed. The AIT tapes also save the tape storage space.

In the year 1996, the new form of the AIT tape format “Advanced Metal Evaporated (AME-III)” was introduced. The AME-III backup cartridge was introduced for the fifth generation of AIT tape, the AIT-5. The AME-III has high recording density and the performance is also very high. In the AME 3 tape, a new method has been introduced to apply the magnetic layer to tape reel and the coated layer is also enforced. For AME-3, a new lubricant has been developed, this lubricant ensures that the overall operation is stable and is carried out smoothly.

New features and technologies has been introduced in the Sony AME-3 tape, these features increase recording capacity and the data density. This AME-III format of AIT tape saves the space for storage of the tape cartridges and is more compact when it is compared to other backup tape formats. The size of the Sony “SDX5-400C” data tape which has native recording capacity of 400 Gigabytes is approximately 37 percent of that of the single reel cartridge’s size. The recording capacity of the AIT 5 data media tape reaches up to 1040 Gigabytes (compressed capacity) and has enhanced data density. The data transfer speed is also very fast (24 Megabytes/second). The tape surface of the AIT-5 data cartridge is very smooth. Therefore, the conversion characteristics of the “Electromagnetic” are also enhanced while on the other hand the friction is also reduced because of the new improved “Lubricant” used in the AIT5 data tape.

The AIT-5 tape also has the WORM technology (Write Once Read Many). The wear of the tape reel during the tape head movement is protected and reduced with “protective coating”. The benefit of the WORM technology is that the data can only be written or it may be added, but the data neither can be erased nor it can be overwritten. Therefore, the WORM technology helps to protect and secure the data in case of any accidental erasure or if the archived data files are altered.
The new chip technology “Remote Memory in Cassette R-MIC” is included in the all the Sony AIT tape versions of AIT 3, AIT 3Ex, AIT-4 and AIT-5. The R-MIC technology simplifies the operations of the Media Management and therefore, the access in the library environments also speeds up. The Sony products are reliable because the Sony Company has been manufacturing the reliable and top quality Media Business products for more than fifty years. The Sony products also include Value added benefits along with the technical support. The enterprises shift to the AIT tape format, because it has the capacity and the technology to support the large volumes of data with fast data transfer speed.

To fulfill the data storage requirements of the medium & small enterprises, the Sony Company has introduced the AIT Turbo tape cartridges. These AIT turbo tapes have the same AIT technology. The native capacity of the AIT turbo backup data tapes ranges from 20 Gigabytes to 80 Gigabytes, while the compressed capacity ranges from 52 Gigabytes to 208 Gigabytes. The AIT turbo tapes reduce the overall operational cost. The Sony AIT tapes come with 64KB chip. This chip can store the valuable information of the Advance Intelligent Tape drives.
