Why Your Spider Veins Definitely Don't Like You

You've never (well, at least to your knowledge) have done anything to make anyone or anything upset. You've always been the kind of person who tries to avoid conflict. Yet, it seems as if people find that weakness in you and pick a fight with you anyway. Yeah, you were "that kid" in the schoolyard.

It's gotten to the point where now you've even been accosted by spider veins. You, ever the pacifist, figured that the spider veins were no big deal, you'd let them continue on in their scraggly way. After all, you were never really the kind of person to wear shorts anyway.

But oh no, the spider veins weren't just going to complacently sit on your legs. They were going to make their presence known. They began to become inflamed, and your legs started to ache. You decided to think about why they showed up in the first place.

Well, it certainly would not have been because of a poor diet. You've always been very diligent about drinking lots of water, and even eating your vegetables! Plus, you've always exercised, and love to jog. Unfortunately, these stupid spider veins have stopped you from jogging altogether. Fine, if these veins want a fight, they're going to get one.

You make an appointment with a dermatologist. You're rather surprised when the dermatologist, who you thought was a nice person, started talking to you as if you were five years old. He chastised you for the state of your veins, and said that had you been more proactive about them, you wouldn't be in such a predicament.

How lovely, it's not as if you didn't know this already. You point out that there's no point of him yelling at you any longer. You'd rather just move forward from here, thank you very much. The doctor arches an eyebrow at you and asks if you'd taken care of yourself otherwise. You tell him all about your diet and your exercise regime.

The doctor says that while you maintained a very healthy diet, you actually did not doo yourself any favors by running as much as you have. He then asked you about the kind of jogging sneakers you wore on your jogging excursions. Well, you said, they were more like shoes than sneakers, and you had gotten them at a dollar store. Your doctor responded by shaking his head in bemusement.

It turns out that the jogging was what made the veins appear, and now they were inflamed because of the constant wear and tear on your legs. If you had let them go any longer, they could have even led to serious clots. So, now you have two main options. The first option is to have sclerotherapy, a procedure in which medicine is injected directly into each vein. Or, you could have laser treatment. Both procedures would have to be done several times over a period of a few months. Fine, whatever needed to be done is what you would do. So much for trying to be nice!
