Have you ever pictured your house without any door? Isn’t it a little awkward? How would you feel without it in your entrance to your home? It must be too much to be welcoming – even to burglars and everything unwelcome – without a door.

A door is that first thing we see in a house. It creates an impression of what the house looks inside. It creates an atmosphere of security – isn’t it we even lock them, double and triple check the locks before we go to sleep every night? Technically speaking, a door is a board, a large pane, or panel which is used to cover an opening in a wall or an entrance to a building. It spells either access or prohibition depending if it is open or closed. The very purpose of a door is to provide privacy and security by regulating access.

When you go shopping for a new front door, you will find yourself in a wide array of various options. You may even find yourself confused on which type, style or design and material of the many doors you will choose!

According to the material being used for your door you want, you may choose from steel doors, fiber glass doors and wooden doors.

Steel doors which are insulated are the most common and inexpensive type of door. They are said to offer higher percentage of security compared to other doors. This helps to ward off burglars. But, it is not dent-free guaranteed. When you bump something into, it tends to dent.

For fiber glass doors, a rigid fiber glass sheet is used as the middle part of a sandwich style construction. One advantage of this type of door against steel doors is that it is not prone to dents. You also have a variety of colors to choose from! It can also be painted. You can also make it look like wood by using non-penetrating stains which will achieve a wood like grain stamped in fiberglass. However, this type of door costs more.

Wood was once the most popular material used in the construction of doors. But, it has been replaced by steel. Only a smaller percentage of the total market uses wooden doors. These are usually perfect for custom sized entries especially if the shape is unique, then a wooden door is the fit choice. They are usually finished off with conventional varnishes to show their natural grain. With wooden doors, class and elegance is spelled. They usually emanate an air of Victorian era.

So, you have to choose carefully which of the doors you would want to place up front. Remember, whether you like it or not, your front door tells something about you and how you are as a person. However, you must also consider security consideration. Which of the types of doors above make you feel most secured? Which of them will fit your financial considerations? Which of them will go and blend well with your house’s external design? All of these, you have to consider.
